This project aims to strengthen security and counter-terrorism operations by improving close quarter battlefield (CQB) techniques for Tunisia’s National Guard Academy in Bir Bouregba, in accordance with international human rights, rule of law standards, and gender considerations. Project activities include: the construction of a CQB training facility; the supply of modernized equipment and training to improve the monitoring, data analysis, and real-time communication capacities of law enforcement officers; technical assistance to improve Standard Operating Procedures for the appropriate and safe use of CQB techniques; and technical assistance to promote and increase the capacity of female officers in frontline and operational roles.

Third phase: promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) in Thai Business by finalizing and refining the DE&I toolkit resulted from Phase I and II and piloting the DE&I toolkit in select companies, and sharing initial results and reflections with relevant stakeholders.

The project aims to improve gender-responsive decision making in political institutions and processes. The project also seeks to strengthen the women’s movement in Iraq by empowering Women’s Advisory Boards (WABs) in five Iraqi governorates. It seeks to increase the capacity of women within these WABs in creating evidence-based initiatives responding to community-identified needs at the local, provincial, and national levels while facilitating linkages with key decision-makers and male allies to build trust and ensure the WABs can effectively influence decision-making. Women with more experience in advocacy will also form an advisory committee providing mentorship support to new WAB members. The project also aims to provide training to further strengthen participants’ leadership, coordination and consensus building skills. This approach builds on a successful first phase where National Democratic Institute (NDI) developed and established the WAB model in the 5 governorates liberated from Daesh.

This project aims to recognize, respond, redistribute, and reduce unpaid care work responsibilities on women and girls in Sri Lanka by helping improve government’s policies, systems, and practices on care work. It also seeks to increase awareness and address socio-cultural norms that enable unequal care duties for men and women. Project activities include: (1) developing 7 unpaid care work policies at sub-national levels and 3 sub-policies on unpaid care work; (2) conducting coalition-building among women’s rights organizations; and (3) raising awareness through campaigns targeting women, youth, boys, men’s groups, policymakers, the private sector, and trade unions.

This project aims to help realize the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). It does so by creating safer and more equitable trading conditions for 300,000 small scale cross-border women traders, who are disproportionally affected by discrimination, harassment, and corrupt practices at border crossings. The project supports trade associations and ministries of trade in targeted countries on new border processes and procedures along the Beira trade corridor, which runs from the southern Democratic Republic of Congo to the port of Beira in Mozambique. Project activities include: (1) training on new border processes and coaching of women-led enterprises on business and financial management; (2) designing and implementing mechanisms to address sexual harassment at the borders; and (3) improving existing data collection systems, including developing and disseminating trade-related data disaggregated by sex, age, and ability.

This project aims to reduce the impact of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Cuba by working on 2 components: (a) identifying and addressing discriminatory barriers and practices which hinder an effective response, and (b) establishing comprehensive and integrated services at national and local levels. To accomplish this, UNFPA aims to work in partnership with the Cuban Federation of Women (FMC in Spanish) and other local stakeholders. Project activities include: (1) completing a study of the structural barriers and gender discriminatory practices which perpetuate SGBV and hinder prevention, care and protection against it; (2) implementing training for decision makers, representatives of local organizations, service providers and community members, to transform perceptions and practices to promote gender equality; (3) improving the coordination mechanisms at the national and local levels to respond to SGBV; (4) implementing a communication strategy to prevent and respond to SGBV; (5) creating a national helpline to provide immediate assistance to victims of SGBV; (6) conducting a study of the prevalence of SGBV in 40 municipalities; and (7) enabling services in those municipalities to respond to GBV guided by protocols with a comprehensive and integrated approach.
It aims to benefit 46,700 people, including 30,979 women, girls, and members of other minority groups vulnerable to SGBV from 40 municipalities in 15 provinces of the country.

The Philippines has the highest natural disaster risk in the world, ranking first out of 193 countries in the 2022 and 2023 World Risk Index. In line with the objectives of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, the project aims to enhance the resilience of communities in 6 highly vulnerable provinces in the Philippines. It does so by building the capacity of national and local governments and institutions, including women-led organizations (WLOs), to effectively prepare, mitigate, respond, and recover from natural disasters. Project activities include: (1) providing technical support to develop and implement agreements and protocols on data interoperability and sharing among national and local governments; (2) training national and local government officials on mainstreaming gender equality, disability, and social inclusion considerations into climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) plans and programming; (3) establishing a Canadian expert deployment mechanism for the government to access demand-driven consultation services in areas such as risk assessments, climate modelling, and disaster planning; (4) training local officials on resource mobilization, budgeting, and procurement for CCA-DRRM initiatives; and (5) providing technical assistance to WLOs to meet accreditation requirements and become members of local DRRM bodies and councils.
The project is expected to directly benefit 690 government officials at the national and local levels, 200 WLO members, and 1,000 community members, and indirectly benefit 1.6 million people from strengthened DRRM governance in the 6 targeted provinces.

This project will combine traditional research with on-site participatory activities for the benefit of policy makers, as well as other relevant stakeholders including civil society, industry and expert community, in recipient countries. This project will focus on the following specific threats:
1. Proliferation of cyber vulnerabilities, exploitation kits, and tools and resources to conduct malicious cyber activities, including on the dark web.
2. Cyber threats and risks to national and regional critical infrastructure, including critical information infrastructure, and critical services.
3. Gendered impacts of cyber-attacks such as denial of service targeting State services and data breaches.

After the initial research phase UNIDIR will conduct the following activities;
1. Scenario-based table-top exercise on the management at the policy and practitioner level of a cyber attack, including its gendered impacts.
2. National-threat assessment leveraging UNIDIR’s taxonomy of malicious ICT incidents with a view to develop a refined understanding of specific national cybersecurity threats and how they affect various segments of society.
3. Baseline assessment of national capabilities relevant for addressing identified threats conducted with the support of UNIDIR’s Foundational Cyber Capabilities tools.
Road-mapping exercise building on the outcomes of the baseline assessment to identify and plan follow-up actions in the short-, medium-, and long term.

This project aims to strengthen the border management capacities of the Haitian Border Police (POLIFRONT), an arm of the Haitian National Police (HNP), to detect and deter illicit cross-border activities that serve to strengthen Haitian gangs operating throughout the country. Over 2 years, the project aims to equip POLIFRONT with the technical tools required to effectively carry out their mandate, provide them with technical training on equipment use and maintenance, and improve infrastructure at the border.
