Advances exploratory research under the New Beginnings Initiative

This project will develop the firm's readiness to serve the Canadian defence sector by adapting its AI-powered open-source intelligence (OSINT) platform for defence applications. The reserach focuses on mapping the defence and intelligence buyer landscape, conducting stakeholder discovery, analyzing the competitive environment, developing a defence-specific go-to-market strategy, assessing technical requirements for defence use cases, and prototyping defence-oriented features such as entity monitoring and threat alerting. The project addresses Canada’s priority to strengthen domestic OSINT capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign providers, contributing to national security innovation.

This project will develop the firm’s readiness to serve the Canadian defense sector for its secure document intelligence platform. The project will include structured market validation with defence stakeholders, mapping of procurement pathways and contract security requirements, and a formal security standards gap assessment aligned to Canadian defence procurement security frameworks (Contract Security Program, CPCSC, and Controlled Goods Program).

The project aims to explore and prepare for adaptation of advanced composite immersive technology for defence and civilian applications (dual use). The activities will assess the technical and operational relevance of modular immersive systems to defence sector requirements, better understand market and procurement process requirements, and identify robustness constraints, to deployment and certifications. The project will help strengthen the company’s innovation capabilities and prepare for a structured entry into defence markets in Canada and with allies.

Working with the support of a NRC collaborator and industry partners Carbon Upcycling Technologies and Innova Cleantech, CIRAMM seeks to integrate CO₂-treated supplementary cementitious materials and graphene nanomaterials to produce and pilot-test optimized low-carbon sidewalk concrete mixes. The Project’s goal is to deliver a validated mix design achieving up to 30–50% embodied-carbon reduction, enhanced freeze–thaw durability, and a full-scale Calgary sidewalk pilot at Technology Readiness Level 8, providing data to guide municipal specification updates and national standards integration.

This project will prepare a defence-focused software system for adoption by military users by identifying the most viable path to defence buyers and operational deployment. The project will validate and prioritize main Command and Control and situational awareness use cases - secure dissemination, data provenance and integrity verification, and edge optimization for constrained links - and define the procurement, integration, and partnership pathways necessary to bring the system to the Canadian and allied defence customers.

Validation of this potential has already occurred. The purpose of this project is to optimize Plantae oilseed bast feedstock as a direct replacement for cotton linters.

Currently Luminultra supplies other NATO militaries with test kits to management microbial growth in fuel and drinking water. The project will ensure Luminultra is commercially ready to supply Canada’s Department of National Defence.

This project includes the exploration of the defence sector procurement ecosystem and the organization’s readiness to contribute to the defence sectors strategic challenges..

Ocean Sonics will use the project funding for several new initiatives that will increase the team's engagement in the Canadian Defense Industry.
