Calumix currently operates a prototype coater for preparing sample carbon coatings on aluminum foil and polymers. The equipment is currently limited to ~50m roll lengths due to design limitations. Longer rolls are required for customer sampling to allow them to make production level samples. Our plan is to modify to coater design to allow for production of longer rolls (up to ~ 500m in length). Once these modifications are complete, there will be a need to confirm performance and then produce multiple rolls of different compositions for sampling to customers.

As part of the international consortium project “DSKENet”, this project will focus on this project 'kills two birds with one stone', addressing the above two problems of single point of failure and scalability. This innovation combines DSKE by Quantum Bridge with QKD systems made by Toshiba's Cambridge Research Lab into 'one stone'. Whereas DSKE is ideal for a secure long-distance backbone network, fibre-based QKD is highly feasible in metropolitan networks with distances less than 500 km. In this project we aim to automate KPI data collection from different functions of the company and digitally display present the data on a scorecard dashboard making it accessible to all the stakeholders.

Traditional air pressure based leak test methods are not capable of reliably measuring the leak rates of battery structures to the leak rates required. Using a tracer gas based system instead of air pressure is a method that removes temperature a barometric pressure effects. While Hard Vac Helium Tracer Gas leak testing is a well studied leak test technology, it’s application to battery structures is new, and its application in a high volume automotive production system is new and novel. Development of critical aspects, such as the sealing strategy, motion components, and sensing, while being able to maintain a high vacuum chamber system is a major challenge.

The project entails hiring a youth, who will be trained in advanced software technologies through on-the-job experience. This youth resource will also contribute towards internal and customer projects. The resource identified for this project is Nicolas De Luca, who earned an Advanced Diploma in a relevant field, acquired initial engagement, and demonstrated great potential.

This program will connect up to 5 Ontario-based cleantech SMEs developing technologies guided by the principles of circularity with a Canadian service provider who can accelerate the commercialization of their innovative products and processes. In projects valued up to $25K each, the SME will gain access to the capabilities offered by a broad range of third party Canadian suppliers to improve both the likelihood and speed of commercial success. Furthermore, by identifying and engaging Canadian talent to provide these services, the value of the program is retained in Ontario/Canada and national supply chains are created for these SMEs.

The project will develop sustainable and economic lithium processing technology that will contribute to addressing lithium supply challenges. Battery-grade lithium is a critical component of batteries used in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage.

Develop upgraded hardware for the firm's IoT Platform Technology

BECC is working to build a gateway for individuals to purchase an Accessory Dwelling Units (“ADU”) in North America using a ADU configurator.

The ADU configurator is process synonymous with how you buy a car. When exploring the car journey process you can go online to mix and match various engine options, trims, colors, and tires.

BECC’s ADU configurator will allow customers to go online to mix and match various energy options (green and traditional power), kitchen and bathroom fixture options, floor and wall colors, and cabinetry.

Plastic waste originating from research labs and medical facilities within the province has been overlooked and unaddressed. BioLabMate has taken an innovative approach toward developing a biodegradable bioplastics solution by harnessing bio-based polymers, such as seaweed pellets. In response to the environmental challenges posed by conventional plastics used in the research lab that require immediate attention. This project have two key objectives: Developing a seaweed-based pellet to produce a lab-scale product for rigorous testing.  The investigation of feasibility for the commercial fabrication of these pellets. The final goal is to utilize these pellets in manufacturing biodegradable, bioplastic laboratory supplies.
