Mission Control proposes to demonstrate a Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) pipeline and corresponding software technology stack for deployment, characterization and improvement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) models in an operational environment for Edge devices in Space. While AI has rapidly gained ground in terrestrial applications, the use of on-board AI for Space applications is nascent. Performance and operational considerations required for using AI models in these environments are not fully understood. By establishing a Canadian AI Lab in Space and performing an extended-baseline demonstration, Mission Control aims to further solidify its reputation as a global leader in on-board Artificial Intelligence. This phase 1 project will develop, de-risk, and refine the implementation plan needed for a full demonstration of the pipeline and the technology stack for EdgeAI in Space, enabling Mission Control to make headway in this market.

To optimize, consolidate, and expand the network of ground-based instruments deployed across Canada in order to make Canada a key partner in international space missions for increased space weather understanding. The instruments will collect auroral images, which will be openly available with minimal delay to Canadian and international scientists. This data will help better understand space weather phenomena, leading to an increased resilience of the Canadian critical infrastructure.

March 2023 - Ethiopia is facing many drivers of humanitarian need, including the ongoing impact of the recent conflict between government and Tigray People’s Liberation Front forces in the north, increasing conflict and insecurity in or between several other regions, a devastating drought in the south and east, and the presence of nearly 900,000 refugees seeking safety on its soil. As a result, Ethiopia currently faces severe food insecurity, acute malnutrition, and significant population displacement. Altogether, more than 20 million people are estimated to require some type of humanitarian assistance in 2023.

With GAC’s support, CARE addresses the health, water, sanitation and hygiene, and protection needs of conflict-and drought-affected people in the East and West Hararghe zones of Oromia region. Project activities include: (1) providing a wide range of health services, with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights; (2) restoring damaged water and sanitation facilities serving internally displaced persons and host communities; and (3) improving access to protection services and basic needs (via multipurpose cash grants) for vulnerable women and girls.

The purpose of this CanExport Innovation agreement is to support Canadian organizations to carry out activities related to pursuing opportunities that would lead to establishing new collaborative Research and Development (R&D) partnerships between the Recipient and foreign organizations in order to support R&D on the Recipient’s technology and advance its commercialization.

This project will support the facilitation of a gathering in Montreal between September 6-8, 2023 which will create a forum for knowledge sharing between survivors, Indigenous community members, experts, academics and Indigenous organizations in the context of the identification of unmarked graves and burial sites of Indigenous children at former Indian residential schools. The project will support communities and survivors to attend the gathering and provide input into the recommendations being developed by the Independent Special Interlocutor for the investigation and protection of unmarked burials and the identification of the missing children of former Indian Residential schools.
