Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Examining peak potency and harvest timing in Cannabis sativa using synchrotron 3D chemical imaging
926002
In cannabis, specialized structures on flowers produce unique compounds with medicinal importance. This project will investigate the physical and chemical landscape of these surface structures through the application of 3D imaging and synchrotron light technologies, revealing how the broad range of medicinal compounds are sequestered on cannabis flowers. Funds will be used for research costs related to chemical testing of plant samples.

Elucidating Endocannabinoid Receptor Dynamics in Response to Exogenous Cannabinoid Binding with Structural Mass Spectrometry
967241
The type 1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1R) is the receptor that is activated by .9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the chemical in Cannabis
that produces the 'high' Cannabis users experience. THC, and the related cannabidiol (CBD) are known as a cannabinoids and at least
120 other cannabinoids have been identified in the Cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are being explored for their potential use to treat
epilepsy, pain, anxiety, and numerous other ailments.

Improved cannabis safety and commercial crop protection with plant pathogen resistance
967253
This project will attempt to identify variation in Botrytis cinerea resistance and susceptibility within available cannabis germplasm. Transcriptomics coupled with laser dissection microscopy will be used to explore the interactions between the plant and pathogen. Sources of pathogen resistance in cannabis will be investigated.
