While quantum magnetometers have achieved remarkable sensitivity, accuracy and stability can be key to real-world deployment. The Project exploits the quantum states of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond to target development of a portable vector magnetometer with best-in-class accuracy. Comprising experts in NV physics, quantum control and optimization, and machine learning, along with scientists from startup SBQuantum skilled in magnetometer design, calibration and deployment, the Project team tackles this challenge across multiple fronts, from improved fundamental physical models to optimized control and state-of-the-art machine learning calibrations. Highly accurate vector magnetometry opens the door to stable sensor arrays that can detect and differentiate magnetic and conductive materials, a key capability for security technology. The Project team examines optimal strategies to recently developed deploy accurate vector magnetometers for remote threat detection, laying the groundwork for commercial and defence applications that could significantly impact Canadian society.

Exploration and validation of potential commercial opportunities for the strategic intelligence technology platform in the defence market, in accordance with the priorities outlined in the Our North, Strong and Free policy.

These improvements will support expanded community programming and ensure continued access to health, wellness, and support services for Aseniwuche Winewak Nation members, including youth, Elders, and families.

This project will renovate and expand the Kugaaruk Wellness Centre to restore and enhance its capacity to deliver culturally grounded community programming. The project will improve the facility’s functionality and resilience while supporting essential services for Elders, young families, and expectant mothers.

This is accomplished by providing grant funding to municipalities and Indigenous communities with existing strict regulatory regimes to support the local enforcement of short-term rental restrictions in an effort to make more long-term housing units available in Canada.

The project will complete technical readiness analysis and develop a compliance and procurement roadmap to support defence and dual-use applications in Canada and allied markets.

They support Canada’s and NATO’s priorities regarding underwater knowledge, diver safety, and dual-use technologies, thereby strengthening the country’s sovereignty and industrial capacity.

The project aims to develop an understanding of business opportunities in the defence market through an analysis of the ecosystem within the Canadian defence sector and internationally (NATO), as well as a definition of needs, business opportunities, the preferred business model, and potential partnerships.

The project aims to adapt a portable auxiliary power unit, currently used in civil light aviation, to meet the needs of military light aviation and thereby enhance the safety of Canadian Armed Forces defence missions.
