In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Description:

The City of Grande Prairie recognizes and encourages the value of outdoor recreation and staying active outdoors year round. The City boast an excellent trail system and has over 110 kilometers of asphalt, gravel, and natural trails to explore, with designated loops in several areas of the City. This project will provide signage in residential and commercial areas of the City, connecting residents and visitors to the trail system from both arterial and non-arterial roads. Assisting residents and visitors to find the trail system will encourage them to walk or ride to the trail system, promoting not only health and wellbeing, but access to pedestrian trails that are maintained regularly and intended for walking or riding in a natural setting. Trail systems also promote environmental awareness and allow those of all ages, abilities, and socio-economic status to participate. The project will improve active transportation connectivity and accessibility for all.

Laying the Foundation for AT Infrastructure in Nova Scotia is about supporting smaller communities, with limited staff and resources, in beginning the process of drafting active transportation plans and identifying shovel-worthy projects for future development. The project will consist of 3 initiatives: 1) Nova Scotia's Active Transportation Future is an ArcGIS web app that presents the state of active transportation planning across the province at-a-glance. 2) Roadmaps to AT Plans is a stakeholder engagement program that will meet with municipal staff, band councils, elected officials, community members and groups to identify barriers and next steps to drafting AT plans in 1-2 communities. 3) How to Engage with Public Engagement will develop educational materials that demystify the common transportation planning workflow, set realistic expectations of information available at each stage, and provide curated tools and resources for communicating design ideas visually without needing any prior experience.

Kashwakamak Lake Flood Mitigation Project
