Development of Official Language Communities Program - Community Life

Through this 42-month project, Wood Buffalo Pride Society will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality. It will address the challenges faced by the organization as they transition from being a volunteer run organization to having paid staff to address the increasing need for support services and expand to include rural Indigenous communities in the region. The project will include creating and implementing a five-year strategic plan, and financial sustainability plan.

To achieve these goals, Wood Buffalo Pride Society will partner with various community organizations to leverage their network and to ensure a coordinated approach to better serve the needs of the 2SLGBTQI+ community.

With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Wood Buffalo Pride Society will implement and update their Strategic Plan, complete Board governance and capacity training, increase organization knowledge of the community, increase National partnerships and build community capacity. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.

Through this 30-month project, Northern BC Queer Connection Society will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality by building a database of resources and collaborating with community partners. It will address lack of knowledge and access of resources in Northern British Columbia.

The project will include establishing a working group of diverse representatives, building of website and database which will be updated on a continually basis. The organization will be engaging the 2SLGBTQI+ community by organizing committees, workshops, and events. An organizational needs assessment will be completed by the working group. The needs assessment will identify appropriate tools and training.

The organization will partner with Prince George Sexual Assault Center, Prince George Pride Society, University of Northern BC Pride Club, College of New Caledonia Pride Center, Tourism Prince George, Qmunity and Northern Gender Health Clinic (Blue Pine Clinic).

Supplemental funding will be used to enhance their Community Summit Conference by having Egale Canada travel to Prince George, British Columbia to provide a in-person workshop. This opportunity will be open to individuals from organizations located throughout Northern British Columbia.

With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, Northern BC Queer Connection Society will research, develop and pilot a 2SLGBTQIA+ DEI workshop with specific focus on Northern BC and will share training materials with other community organizations throughout Northern BC via e-learning platform. Through this, they will further advance Gender Equality.

Through this 30-month project, Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic will scale up its promising practices to prevent and respond to the criminalization of GBV survivors by adapting them to local realities in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario. Regional court observations at four sites across the country will be conducted and key learnings will be discussed at a series of regional forums for GBV-sector organizations. The project will produce regional reports and a fact sheet-series on topics such as working with a criminal lawyer, applying for legal aid, coercive control, mandatory charging, and peace bonds.

Partners, service providers and GBV survivors will contribute their expertise on regional realities, considerations, and potential adaptations. A national Community Engagement Working Group (CEWG) focusing on access to justice for criminalized GBV survivors and a series of multilingual fact sheets will be created to inform and to help them navigate criminal charges. Proposed law reforms and policy recommendations will be developed and shared as part of a policy paper and a national forum. At the end of the project, an evaluation report will be produced and key findings and lessons learned will be shared. Training, support, and implementation strategies will be provided to GBV-organizations to foster replication and expansion of the promising practices.

Through this 32-month project, British Columbia Association of First Nations (BCAFN) will increase its ability to prevent and address gender-based violence against First Nations women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. This will be achieved by working with partners to identify opportunities to advocate for legislation that will result in improved responses to MMIWG2S+. The project will also support implementation of BCAFN’s Women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Strategic Action plan and enhance capacity for BCAFN’s Women’s and 2SLGBTQQIA+ representatives to engage First Nations and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people, to be spokespersons, and to provide guidance to ensure that BCAFN’s advocacy is intersectional, inclusive, and strategic. BCAFN will develop evergreen Orientation kits for the 2SLGBTQQIA+ and Women representatives to ensure common understanding of key issues and positions and clarity regarding roles and responsibilities.

Through this project BCAFN will continue to collaborate on issues of shared priority with the Union of BC Indian Chiefs and First Nations Summit as the First Nations Leadership Council, as well as a number of sector specific First Nations Organizations that First Nations in BC have established as advocacy and technical support bodies.

By the end of the project, BCAFN will have strengthened their capacity to prevent and address GBV against First Nations women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people across British Columbia.

Through this 41-month project, Calgary Outlink Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality. It will address service gaps while reducing organizational silos and the duplication of efforts between service providers and 2SLGBTQI+ communities. The project will include conducting a needs assessment, the development of an Interagency Network of 2SLGBTQI+-serving organizations and the creation of an online resource database to strengthen connections, develop a coordinated approach for collaboration and to bolster resource-sharing between 2SLGBTQI+ service providers in Calgary and surrounding areas. To share their knowledge, Calgary Outlink Centre will disseminate lessons-learned through community outreach sessions.

With the supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, Calgary Outlink Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity will develop new tools and strategies to support revenue diversification and sustainability including engaging in financial management training, developing strategic frameworks, and exploring new opportunities and approaches to a variety of funding sources including corporate partnership and social enterprise. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.

Through this 47-month project, Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society will conduct research that will help improve GBV services for at-risk groups. This project seeks to bridge a gap in the available knowledge by centering experiences of social workers providing care to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), and to contribute to improved services for survivors. It builds on knowledge to help address the needs of workers who are often invisible in the GBV sector. Addressing barriers faced by the social workers has significant implication on the level and quality of support subsequently extended to those at risk of or experiencing GBV.

Key project activities will include: focus group research discussions, engaging 60 participants; and key informant interviews investigating operational barriers and opportunities of organizations. The project will include a literature review, and data collection and analysis. Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society will complete a project report, policy briefs, newspaper articles, an academic journal article, an action plan, and a community event to share information on the research findings.

With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, the Vancouver Aboriginal Friendship Centre Society will develop and share policy and procedure guides with employers in the anti-violence sector and will mobilize knowledge transfer by sharing out action plan with the anti-violence sector and relevant government organizations. Through this they will further advance Gender Equality.

This project aims to develop Canadian adapted tomato genetics with high yield potential and consumer preferred flavour.

The project will support development of intellectual property capacity within the firm.
