Through this 12-month project, Women’s Centre for Social Justice (WCSJ) will contribute to preventing and addressing human trafficking by tackling knowledge and resource gaps in the GBV sector. To do so, community-based research on community’s understanding of and knowledge gaps on human trafficking in the Canadian context will be conducted. WCSJ will also develop and test a 360-degree wrap-around support service, including resources and a toolkit for survivors of human trafficking, their families, their support networks, and the general public.

WCSJ will engage community partners, survivors and their families as well as academics to participate in the participatory research design, contribute their expertise to the data collection efforts and toolkit development and share project information within their networks.

Through this  42-month project, 11399527 Canada Society (O/A Future Black Female) will develop and put in place the Black Youth United Against GBV & IPV pilot project to strengthen the GBV sector. It will address knowledge and awareness gaps about the intersectional identities that shape Black women’s and girls’ experiences of GBV and IPV through culturally relevant and responsive youth-led workshops. To do so, the project will recruit, train, and mobilize Black youth, including boys and men, as facilitators of discussions about GBV and IPV. An external evaluator will measure and assess the impact of the promising practice. Future Black Female will facilitate community roundtable discussions; present at conferences and create resources and materials to share information on the promising practice with others so that they may replicate it or expand upon it.

The first supplemental funding will be used to integrate intersectional GBA+ perspectives that reflect the experiences of Black youth (including boys and men) newcomers and refugees, people with disabilities, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, and people living with HIV/AIDS. It will support peer-led, community-based research to collect data, which will be translated into an updated GBV/IPV handbook and capacity-building tools. These tools will further support culturally relevant GBV/IPV programming and system-level change.  

With the Supplemental funds and extension provided in early 2026, Future Black Female will 1) Map out the GBV/IPV Sector and Engage Black-led (B3) and Grassroots Settlement Agencies; 2) Develop Afrocentric and Culturally Grounded Integration Resources; 3) Train and Build the Capacity of Mainstream Service Providers (including Campus Sexual Assault Centres); and 4) Evaluate the Project to Mobilize Learning and Knowledge Across GBV/IPV Sector. Through this, they will further advance Gender Equality.

This 29 month-project will address systemic barriers to the establishment and growth of women-owned enterprises, with a particular focus on Black communities and official language minority communities, in order to create a more inclusive and equitable social
entrepreneurial landscape in the Canadian digital economy.

To do so, the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) will conduct research to uncover and showcase indicators and catalysts for success at all stages of social entrepreneurship in the digital economy. It will recruit at least 500 women-owned enterprises in Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Alberta to participate in its entrepreneurship and mentorship programs, and interactive hub to exchange knowledge, best practices, and mentorship opportunities. ICTC will also be engaging with core industry partners to participate in an advisory committee, contribute their expertise to knowledge mobilization sessions for the entrepreneurs, and share project information among their networks. At the end of the project, the organization will share results of its project evaluation.
