Establishing structure in bookkeeping, administration, and HR development

The City boast an excellent trail system and has over 110 kilometers of asphalt, gravel, and natural trails to explore, with designated loops in several areas of the City. This project will provide signage in residential and commercial areas of the City, connecting residents and visitors to the trail system from both arterial and non-arterial roads.

Laying the Foundation for AT Infrastructure in Nova Scotia is about supporting smaller communities, with limited staff and resources, in beginning the process of drafting active transportation plans and identifying shovel-worthy projects for future development. The project will consist of 3 initiatives: 1) Nova Scotia's Active Transportation Future is an ArcGIS web app that presents the state of active transportation planning across the province at-a-glance. 2) Roadmaps to AT Plans is a stakeholder engagement program that will meet with municipal staff, band councils, elected officials, community members and groups to identify barriers and next steps to drafting AT plans in 1-2 communities. 3) How to Engage with Public Engagement will develop educational materials that demystify the common transportation planning workflow, set realistic expectations of information available at each stage, and provide curated tools and resources for communicating design ideas visually without needing any prior experience.

The project seeks to provide flood and drought risk hazard protection in the Mississippi Valley watershed through replacing a dam at Kashwakamak lake. This would mitigate the risk of dam overtopping and dam failure, which have been exacerbated by more frequent and more severe extreme weather events. Additionally, the project will significantly reduce economic losses and disruptions in the community that are created by both flooding and water shortages.

This project will improve on existing and build up new flood protection assets along the banks of Hay River west channel in order to protect the Village of West Point First Nation and the Town of Hay River. Once complete, the project will mitigate the impacts of future flooding events related to climate change.

This project seeks to implement a green network that will revitalize a range of natural infrastructure, connect residents to nature, protect biodiversity, and increase climate resilience, with the objective of reducing flooding risks, emissions and pollutants, while improving natural habitats, biodiversity and residents’ access to nature.

This grant supports work towards the implementation of the “Spirit of the Lake Speaks” management plan, supporting Mi’kmaq-led engagement activities and specific planning
initiatives related to sustainable practices in the Bras d’Or Lakes region and Unama’ki (Cape Breton Island).

This grant supports the forest conservation internship hosted by the Ministry of Forests. The Masters-level intern will learn about forest conservation initiatives on Haida Gwaii, in Gwaai Haanas and the many challenges and creative solutions here.

This grant supports the development and creation of a small exhibit about the Finnish Labour Temple National Historic Site. The site was destroyed by fire in 2021. The exhibit will allow the public to learn more about the building and its role as a symbol and landmark for the Finnish community.

The project advances the Government of Canada commitment to plant an incremental two billion trees by March 31, 2031, to tackle the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.
