In addition, Ethiopia hosts more than 900,000 refugees reliant on humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs.

With GAC’s support, Action Against Hunger Canada aims to reduce mortality and morbidity, improve wellbeing and support the dignity of conflict-affected refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Central Darfur and South Kordofan, with a particular focus on women, adolescent girls and children under the age of five.

Through this 22-month project, the Conseil québécois LGBT plans to support organizations working to protect the population's rights by improving their practices in terms of LGBTQ+ inclusion. In particular, the LGBT Quebec Council intends to document the systemic barriers faced by LGBTQ2+ people, particularly those who find themselves at the crossroads of oppression, when they interact with these organizations and establish a diagnostic of their current practices (including services provided, external and internal communications, and human resources) to recommend the right approaches for the implementation of more inclusive practices. In addition, the Conseil québécois LGBT intends to disseminate these best practices and tools developed during the project to members of its network throughout the province.

By the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to the elimination of systemic barriers by adopting more inclusive policies and practices within the project's partner organizations.

These needs are exacerbated by the ongoing Ebola outbreak, increased violence, and the forced return of hundreds of thousands Congolese refugees.

With GAC’s support, Action Against Hunger (ACF) is providing assistance to address the urgent needs of up to 68,337 conflict-affected people in the Mweso Health Zone in the DRC.

Project activities are aimed at those whose access to education has been severely limited by a crisis, particularly children and adolescents who have been displaced and repatriated, and those who have become refugees.
Project activities include the following:
1) train 101 education and child protection workers on gender equality, on the rights of girls and on the rights of children living with a disability; 2) train education stakeholders on how to integrate out-of-school children into education systems, particularly girls and children living with a disability; 3) develop and implement gender- and inclusion-sensitive school improvement plans, including the construction of latrines adapted to the specific needs of adolescent girls and children with a physical disability; and 4) train 1,344 teachers on themes related to education in emergencies, gender-based violence in schools, special education and gender-sensitive teaching practices.

Regular violence across the 80% of the country that is controlled by armed groups continues to exacerbate displacement; currently, one quarter of the country's population is displaced, either internally or as refugees in neighbouring countries.

With GAC’s support, Action Against Hunger (ACF) is providing assistance to address the urgent needs of up to 38,450 conflict-affected people in Basse-Kotto prefecture, CAR.

The continuous movement of refugees to neighbouring countries, including Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda, represents a risk of spreading the outbreak to other provinces and neighbouring countries.

With GAC’s support, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is providing protection and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) support to refugees and vulnerable people in six countries, including Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Pakistan and South Sudan.

March 2021 - Cameroon is experiencing three distinct humanitarian crises in 2021 that include: (1) violence in northeastern Nigeria, cross-border raids and suicide attacks have caused massive displacements in the Far North region; (2) conflict and insecurity in the Central African Republic continue to cause an influx of refugees east of the country; and (3) insecurity in the North-West and South-West regions has led to massive internal displacement.
