This project aims to strengthen peace and human rights in a volatile region by promoting inclusive community planning, social cohesion, and gender equity by supporting state institutions and local actors to build governance capacity to strengthen resilience. The project supports urgent needs including shock-responsive agriculture, climate adaptation, and livelihood restoration, to address the impacts of regional insecurity and climate volatility. It also enhances household and community resilience by providing sustainable food production systems, irrigation infrastructure, and training, to mitigate the economic and environmental shocks affecting Northern Nigeria.

Project activities include: (1) Support to the development and creation of community and household assets for sustainable food production, post-harvest handling and market linkages; (2) Providing vocational training for youth in agribusiness and digital skills including financial inclusion through National Identification Number (NIN) registration; (3) Strengthening early warning systems for shock responsive social protection using anticipatory action through training and support with development of frameworks and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); and (4) Strengthening the state social protection policy to include safety nets.

The UBC’s Master of Global Health (MGH) program is a program that focuses on global environmental health, global health governance, and global health ethics. This project will establish 14 graduate scholarships and 10 academic fellowships for placements in Indo-Pacific partner institutions, marking the first step toward building an Indo-Pacific consortium of global health aligned with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.

The project will partner with the Ministry of Trade in Indonesia and the Department of Trade and Industry in the Philippines to identify 400 SMEs with export potential to receive capacity building support for growing their businesses internationally. This will lead to enhanced growth and strengthened economic relationships between SMEs in Canada and those in Indonesia and the Philippines, particularly those owned and/or led by women. The project will: (1) increase the incomes of SMEs in Indonesia and the Philippines from international trade/investment, particularly those owned and/or led by women, (2) improve and diversify economic relationships between SMEs in Canada and SMEs in Indonesia and the Philippines, particularly those owned and/or led by women, and (3), strengthen the enabling environment provided by trade support institutions in Indonesia and the Philippines that fosters SMEs to leverage market opportunities in Canada.

This project supports Canadian graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty in collaborative research on climate change and sustainable development. Partnering with top institutions in India, Japan, Australia, and Thailand, the project will support 45 Canadian graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty members in conducting high-impact research across two streams: Stream I focuses on advancing nuclear energy through radiation-resistant ceramics, while Stream II develops applied technological solutions for sustainable energy, water management, agriculture, and construction.

This project aims to strengthen the food systems of rural communities in Northern Luzon and Eastern Visayas, Philippines, who are highly vulnerable to climate change and food insecurity. It focuses on empowering women and marginalized groups, particularly female farmers, to lead in climate adaptation and disaster resilience within agri-food systems by: 1) boosting gender-responsive, disaster and climate resilient food production, 2) building capacity of community members, particularly women on disaster risk resilience in agri-food systems, and 3) strengthening linkages among local authorities and communities in implementing gender-responsive and climate resilient disaster risk management for agri-food systems.. The program will leverage Canadian and Filipino expertise to create sustainable solutions, benefiting 15,000 direct beneficiaries and influencing broader policy and knowledge.

The project aims to strengthen the protection of human rights by equipping human rights defenders with the tools and support needed to engage more effectively with governments and other duty-bearers.

This project aims to reduce explosive threats to civilians in southern and eastern Lebanon through the survey and clearance of unexploded ordnance focusing on heavily affected agricultural and residential zones, using mechanical assets to access complex terrain and remove rubble. MAG will rehabilitate infrastructure and provide equipment to enable safe storage for weapons and ammunition, in close coordination with the LMAC, Lebanese civil society and LAF, to ensure civilian safety, reduce immediate threats, support safe return, and stabilization. Project activities include: (1) Deployment of three mine action teams (MATs) to conduct technical survey (TS), clearance, and disposal spot tasks across priority contaminated areas; (2) Deployment of two CL teams and one mechanical team to conduct non-technical survey (NTS) and deliver explosive ordnance risk education (EORE); (3) Construct one explosive storehouse (ESH) to expand safe ammunition storage capacity; (4) Procurement and donation of specialized equipment, including a heavy-duty forklift and X-ray inspection machine, to enhance safe handling and inspection of munitions; (5) Implementation of priority WAM upgrades, including rehabilitation of storage infrastructure at selected sites.

This project will significantly strengthen Ukraine and Moldova’s capacities to prevent, detect, investigate, and respond to chemical and broader chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Project activities include: (1) delivery of training for security and law enforcement agencies in Ukraine and Moldova on preventing, detecting, investigating and responding to chemical weapons incidents; (2) development and delivery of a train-the-trainer program on chemical, biological, nuclear and radiological investigations for the Security Service of Ukraine; and (3) delivery of training workshops and exercises to security personnel, judges and prosecutors in Ukraine and Moldova covering investigation, prosecution and adjudication of chemical crimes.

This project aims to reduce threats from terrorist financing and money laundering in North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia) through strengthened, human-rights compliant, and gender responsive national and regional financial oversight capacity. Project activities include 1) foundational and advanced “follow the money” training, 2) simulated court preparation sessions, 3) on-the-job mentorship for financial intelligence unit (FIU) analysts and 4) specialized workshops on evolving technologies, beneficial ownership, and the abuse of the non-profit sector in terrorist financing.

This project aims to protect civilians and support early recovery in northern and central Syria by enabling safe access to land, infrastructure, and essential services through the reduction of risks posed by landmines and other explosive ordnance.
Project activities include: (1) conducting technical surveys, manual clearance, and explosive ordnance disposal to identify, remove, and destroy explosive hazards in prioritized areas; (2) deploying mechanical assets to support safe and efficient land release for agricultural, community, and infrastructure use; (3) delivering explosive ordnance risk education sessions to help women, men, girls, and boys recognize risks and adopt safer practices; (4) training community members as focal points to report contamination and share safety information within their communities; and (5) strengthening the technical and coordination capacity of national authorities and partner organizations to manage mine action activities in line with international standards.
