Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Agreement Number:

1006779

Duration: from Sep 1, 2023 to Mar 31, 2026
Description:

Modeling of metal/composite forming process

Agreement Number:

1006900

Duration: from Sep 1, 2023 to Mar 31, 2026
Description:

The automotive industry currently faces a significant number of economic and
environmental challenges related to fuel efficiency and electrification of
transportation. As a result, there has been in recent years a sharp increase in
demand for lighter components in response to the need to save weight to
reduce GHG emissions coming from conventional combustion engine vehicles
and to increase driving range of electric vehicles. So far, lightweighting efforts
have focused on a wide range of materials including metals and advanced
composite materials. However, despite the significant progress accomplished,
the industry is still looking for more cost-effective solutions for the mass?production of lightweight components. One of the most-promising alternatives
for the fabrication of cost-effective lightweight components consists in metal?composite hybrids. Hybrid components made of steel and advanced
composites combine high mechanical performance with low weight. This
Project thus focuses on the development of hybrid components manufactured
using a one-step process. In particular, this Project aims at modeling the
forming process of metal/composites hybrids to allow metal deformation and
fibre orientations to be predicted in order to provide the necessary information
required for the design of components and production tools.
