The Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP) aims to enable Canadian universities to foster research excellence and to enhance their role in the global, knowledge-based economy as world-class centres of research excellence; to provide targeted resources to help attract and retain a cadre of world class researchers to reinforce academic research excellence in Canadian universities; and to support internationally competitive research and research capacity that generates social, economic and cultural benefits for Canada.

This project will develop and disseminate actionable open-source intelligence to key stakeholders working to confront the urgent and multifaceted challenge of North Korea's intensifying proliferation and procurement of weapons and materials of mass destruction and advanced conventional weapons, which are largely financed through pervasive sanctions evasion. The project will also help to illuminate and address North Korea's active support of Russia's war against Ukraine, forging a dangerous authoritarian partnership that threatens global security.

This project will bring together Ontario stakeholders and frontline workers (including restorative justice, Gladue, and aftercare program workers) for a two-day conference focused on both current trends and supportive self-care strategies for frontline workers.

Previous research (funded by CSTIP QSP-019-2) allowed for the development of a brain monitoring device based on advanced time-resolved Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (trNIRS) technology, which demonstrated the ability to measure metabolic activity in the brain-equivalent layer of realistic head models mimicking adult human anatomy. The Project aims to refine the technology and validate its capability to noninvasively monitor cerebral metabolism in adults. The Project Team will conduct a carotid occlusion study in a pig model of the adult head, inducing measurable changes in cerebral metabolism. Data collected with trNIRS probes positioned on the scalp will be compared against direct brain measurements to assess accuracy. Additionally, the device will be tested in adult volunteers performing finger tapping tasks to detect subtle cerebral metabolic changes with trNIRS probes on the scalp, over the motor cortex. The Project will also investigate integrating superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) into the trNIRS device to enhance brain sensitivity.

The purpose of this CanExport Innovation agreement is to support Canadian organizations to carry out activities related to pursuing opportunities that would lead to establishing new collaborative Research and Development (R&D) partnerships between the Recipient and foreign organizations in order to support R&D on the Recipient’s technology and advance its commercialization.

This project will support attendance at the Issues of Substance Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction National Conference and provide training to the staff of the Spousal Abuse Counselling Program.

Indigenous Languages and Cultures Program - Indigenous Languages and Cultures

This capacity-building project focuses on moving from strategic planning into practical, operational readiness. Activities will include training and mentorship sessions with Justice staff, support the development of departmental role definitions and integration guides, and co-develop practical funding packages, templates, and communications tools to sustain long-term implementation.

The capacity-building project activities will include review and finalization of the draft orientation manual, development of a policy and procedures manual, and development of promotional and advertisement material, all to strengthen the foundation of the community-based justice program.
