Our diverse coalition of researchers and community partners will interweave three streams of research activities, taking place in parallel: (1) community-based participatory research and implementation science methods are applied to design a Community Lung Health Programme with community members addressing lung health through a holistic biosocial paradigm; (2) engineering, microbiology, and epidemiologic methods are leveraged to develop a protocol that the Community Lung Health Programme can use to accurately measure built-environment-related determinants of lung health, and identify at-risk housing stock; (3) scoping and systematic review methods, and a pilot study, are applied to evaluate emerging technologies for point-of-care diagnosis or monitoring of respiratory diseases to reduce medical travel out of region.

Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting people affected by conflict and violence, by providing medical care, access to potable water, and restoring livelihoods; (2) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees; and (3) providing Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise and capacity support to promote international humanitarian law, restore links between lost family members, deliver health services, raise funds for emergency response and integrate gender equality into operations.

Project activities include: (1) strengthening health care provider’s capacity to provide quality nutrition services to boys and girls under the age of five, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers in the context of COVID-19 through training; (2) procuring essential nutrition supplies, equipment and tools for health facilities; (3) strengthening community-based volunteers and support groups’ capacity to undertake community mobilization, awareness-raising and communication campaigns to access nutrition services and support preventive measures for malnutrition; (4) strengthening adolescent clubs and their leaders’ capacity to provide simple nutrition counselling and distribute iron folic acid among adolescent girls; and (5) increasing advocacy on preventive measures to protect boys’ and girls’ nutrition under the age of five, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers, and severe acute malnutrition treatment using local therapeutic foods.
