March 2021— Current conflicts and instability mean that Cameroon is facing three separate humanitarian situations, as follows: (1) violence in northeastern Nigeria, cross-border raids and suicide attacks, which have caused significant displacement in the Far North region; (2) Central African refugees fleeing insecurity in the Central African Republic are arriving in the eastern part of the country; (3) conflict in the South-West and North-West regions is leading to significant internal displacements of the population.

This project aims to improve the livelihoods of rural Lebanese and Syrian refugee women and contributes to their empowerment through training in business management, communication skills and legal issues related to women’s rights.

With GAC’s support, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is working in several eligible countries in the Americas to help support the response to the Venezuela refugee and migrant situation in the region.

Project activities include: (1) providing emergency shelter kits, non-food items and multi-purpose cash; (2) coordinating camp management for internally-displaced persons (IDPs) in United Nations bases; (3) deploying mobile teams to remote locations where affected populations lack water, sanitation and hygiene services; (4) providing emergency water, sanitation and hygiene; (5) supporting humanitarian organizations by establishing lightweight camps in deep field locations, heavy base camps and national NGO support centres, and by providing cargo transport services; (6) data collection that includes mapping of vulnerable populations at points of entry, and at the district and community levels for enhanced targeting and delivery of assistance; and (7) protection and gender mainstreaming across humanitarian response activities for extremely vulnerable individuals, including unaccompanied migrant children, and single women and adolescent girls.

These needs are exacerbated by the ongoing Ebola outbreak, increased violence, and the forced return of hundreds of thousands of Congolese refugees.

With GAC’s support, People in Need is providing assistance to address the urgent needs of up to 24,524 conflict-affected people in Kabambare territory, DRC.

Regular violence across the country that is controlled by armed groups continues to exacerbate displacement; currently, over one quarter of the country's population is displaced, either internally (600,100) or as refugees in neighbouring countries (592,000).

With GAC’s support, Doctors Without Borders Canada is providing emergency health services for up to 593,000 conflict-affected people in Ouham and Ouham-Pende prefectures in the Central African Republic.

GAC and other donors are providing funding to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Central African Republic Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF).

With GAC’s support, the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) is providing assistance to address the urgent needs of up to 45,125 conflict-affected people in Mbomou prefecture, CAR.

Project activities include: (1) strengthening the capacity of the polio program to immunize all girls and boys in rural and remote areas in Pakistan; (2) deploying special vaccination strategies for mobile and refugee populations in difficult to access locations; (3) engaging with communities on integrated health services.

RCMSAR is committed to best practices and adapting to changes in SAR techniques that are often developed in other parts of the world. Events such as the refugees attempting to cross the Mediterranean Sea have led to innovations in mass rescue operations that North American SAR agencies can learn from.
