Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

AI-Driven Advanced Imaging Device for Biomarker Identification in Histology Slides

Agreement Number:

1034070

Duration: from Jul 1, 2025 to Jun 30, 2026
Description:

illumiSonics is developing the Photon Absorption Remote Sensing (MLI®) Advanced Imaging Device (AID), a high-resolution, label-free imaging system that enhances digital pathology through multiplexed virtual staining of unstained FFPE tissue. By capturing multiple optical contrasts in a single scan, the device enables AI-driven image reconstruction of standard histological stains, such as H&E and Masson’s Trichrome. The project will finalize and validate the system, deploy it to a research partner, and generate revenue through scan-per-use and licensing models in support of translational research, biomarker discovery, and advanced cancer diagnostic tests.

Development of Novel EGFR Inhibitors as Cancer Therapeutics

Agreement Number:

1032219

Duration: from Jul 1, 2025 to Mar 31, 2026
Description:

Firm would like to design and develop novel EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) inhibitor cancer therapeutic that improve selectivity to allow irreversible inhibition to overcome resistance mutations. EGFR plays a central role in cell proliferation and survival. Aberrant EGFR signaling is a driver mutation in many tumors, making it an ideal and validated target for cancer therapy. Despite many pharmaceutical companies actively advancing EGFR inhibitors, drug resistance and severe side effects remain unsolved challenges that need to be addressed.
