The Project aims to develop a new generation of single-photon detectors (SPDs) that combine high photogeneration gain, ultrafast response, low dark noise, and telecom-band sensitivity with the practical advantages of low cost, fiber compatibility, and scalable manufacturing. The technology centers on environmentally benign SnTe quantum dots (QDs), which have novel multiple-exciton generation (MEG) and avalanche multiplication effect to enable superior infrared photon harvesting. Building on the Project team’s preliminary achievements—including SnTe/ZnTe core–shell QD synthesis, device-level MEG demonstration, and a unique ultrafast photocurrent spectroscopy platform—the Project optimizes QD chemistry, engineer device architectures, and elucidate in-situ ultrafast carrier dynamics to maximize SPD performance. The resulting chip-integrated detectors have the potential to surpass conventional semiconductor and superconducting SPDs, offering high gain, reduced noise, and telecom compatibility. The Project advances Canada’s quantum technology ecosystem, strengthens collaborations across academia, industry, and government, and supports secure quantum communication infrastructure of national importance.

The objective of the project is to conduct foundational studies to guide the development of a user guide for the use of blocks in the construction of residential units or other buildings.

The project supports the development of a European-ready version of the platform, including multilingual capability, regulatory compliance enhancements, workflow adaptations, and system integrations required to support commercialization plans including scalable international deployment.

The project supports the economic growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the processed food sector in Indonesia and the Philippines, especially those led by women and underrepresented groups by: (1) strengthening inclusive, gender-responsive & sustainable trade support services delivered by Trade Support Institutions (TSIs) to processed food sector SMEs, especially those owned or led by women & under-represented groups; (2) strengthening climate-resilient & gender-responsive technology services provided by Agri-Technology Providers (ATPs) to SMEs in processed food sector, especially those owned or led by women and under-represented groups; and (3) increasing international market access by SMEs in the processed food sector, especially those owned or led by women and under-represented groups.

The second phase of TURQUESA aims to support beneficiary countries in disrupting and dismantling organized crime groups that engage in trafficking in persons (TIP) and smuggling of migrants (SOM) in the Americas, thereby eliminating the threat they pose to regional stability and rule of law.

This project will address critical minerals crimes in the Asia-Pacific region through strengthened governance, targeted capacity building, and regional coordination. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime will engage national authorities of Mongolia, the Philippines, and Indonesia to prevent, detect, and respond to minerals-related organized crime, including illicit financial flows and corruption. Project activities include: 1) assessments on minerals-sector crime risks and criminal justice solutions; 2) law enforcement capacity building; and 3) convening regional coordination to reduce critical minerals crimes that threaten shared Canadian and Asia-Pacific interests.

The project addresses natural resource governance in the Indo-Pacific, a region facing biodiversity loss, climate change, and geopolitical tensions.
