For the Fall 2024 CIHR Fellowship Priority Announcements, the CIHR Institute of Aging (CIHR-IA) will fund up to three fellowship applications: two within the Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging Research Initiative priority areas and one within the Ageism and Older Adults priority area.

CIHR-IA applications in the Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging area must align with the CIHR Institute of Aging Strategic Plan 2023-2028 and must focus on Brain Health and Cognitive Impairment in Aging priority areas.

CIHR-IA applications in the Ageism and Older Adults priority area must align with one of the three main research areas as described in our Strategic Plan 2023-2028 Reframing Aging Empowering Older Adults.

The Vanier CGS program aims to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global centre of excellence in research and higher learning by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of scholarly achievement in graduate studies in the social sciences and humanities, natural sciences and engineering, and health; as well as leadership skills.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:
• To provide recognition and funding to academic health research trainees;
• To provide a reliable supply of highly skilled and qualified researchers.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Strengthen and build capacity within communities for CBR and KM that delivers impactful, useful, and timely results for populations at greatest risk of STBBI in Canada;
• Advance community-centred approaches to STBBI research by establishing meaningful partnerships between communities and researchers from academic or other research institutions; and
• Improve health equity by conducting, enabling and/or facilitating access to research that addresses structural, social, behavioural, and biomedical determinants of health for key populations affected by STBBI.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:
• To provide recognition and funding to academic health research trainees;
• To provide a reliable supply of highly skilled and qualified researchers.

The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Doctoral (CGS D) Program provides financial support to outstanding eligible students pursuing doctoral studies in a Canadian university.

The objective is to facilitate the SDs continued participation as an active researcher

The Canada Graduate Scholarships-Master’s (CGS M) Program helps develop research skills and assist in the training of highly qualified personnel by supporting students who demonstrate a high standard of achievement in undergraduate and early graduate studies.

1. Promote research independence and academic research career readiness of highly qualified post-doctoral researchers, clinicians and PhD-holding research associates belonging to specific underrepresented groups;
2. Increase the number of funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups conducting excellent research who secure their first independent research faculty position in a Canadian academic, health system or research institution; and
3. Provide funded researchers from specific underrepresented groups with early career support to enhance their probability of future success in obtaining independent research funding and launching successful research faculty careers in Canada that will contribute to the creation and/or use of health-related knowledge to improve the health of Canadians.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Define best practices for delivering clinical genetic and genomic information to patients for the field of inherited diseases holistically along with the associated emotional, psychological, and/or practical support required during and after diagnosis. This may include, but is not limited to:
o Ensuring accessibility of information;
o Using technology to enable initial and ongoing genetic counselling;
o Addressing access to psychological and social services;
o Promoting information dissemination throughout patients’ lifetimes; and,
o Advancing opportunities to connect with other patients.
• Identify capacity building opportunities for AHPs to sustain the increase in genetic testing in clinical settings.
• Foster knowledge mobilization to inform timely uptake of new information and maximize impact of the above goals across institutions, disciplines, jurisdictions, and sectors by identifying equitable, effective and sustainable implementation solutions.
