The International Committee of the Red Cross’ (ICRC) primary mission is to help protect the lives and dignity of people affected by conflict and other violent situations. The ICRC assists and works to prevent further suffering by promoting and strengthening international humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. The ICRC works with local Red Cross and Red Crescent national society staff and volunteers to implement its protection and assistance programmes worldwide.
With the support of GAC and other donors, the ICRC’s humanitarian operations aim to provide protection, emergency relief and other essential services to people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence, as well as to promote respect for international humanitarian law. Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting people affected by conflict and violence through providing medical care, income support, and food assistance; (2) ensuring the respect of international humanitarian law in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities and detainees; (3) promoting humanitarian principles (neutrality, impartiality and independence) among all stakeholders; and (4) participating with all stakeholders in negotiating safe access to populations in need.

This project aims to reduce biological threats by strengthening health security capacities for disease surveillance and response, specifically focusing on integrated disease surveillance at the sub-national level, event-based surveillance, genomic surveillance, and epidemic intelligence.

Grant for Institutional Support to the UN Trust Fund on Indigenous Issues to support the work of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) to build expertise on Indigenous issues and mainstream related issues throughout the UN system.

MacMillan Space Centre will develop Back to the Moon – a program that highlights moon exploration and Canadian scientific contributions to astronomy and space exploration. Goals of the program include providing youth, families, and educators hands-on experiences and engagement with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through the context of space science. Back to the Moon will reach out to underserved and underrepresented youth and families through accessible and inclusive educational programs. It will also connect youth and educators with examples of diverse scientists in the space sector.

The project aims to create a classroom ready teacher resource for Grades six to eight Science & Technology teachers. The teacher resource will excite all learners to discover the social, economic and environmental impact of Canadian space technology and develop scientific and technological literacies through STEM experiences. Three interdisciplinary activities will be created to build student skills in engineering design, scientific research, scientific experimentation, and coding. The activities will engage students in scientific concepts in biology, chemistry, physics and earth & space sciences connected to the Ontario Science & Technology curriculum.
