About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Scaling up Investments in Nature-based Solutions for Climate Resilience

This project supports the Government of Bangladesh’s efforts to integrate climate change adaptation in large infrastructure projects and urban plans to make them more resilient and integrate nature-based solutions (NBS) with biodiversity co-benefits. It also seeks to incorporate the views of the most vulnerable, particularly women, in project design. Project activities include: (1) Conducting high-resolution climate risk assessments and stress tests for infrastructure assets; (2) Strengthening the capacity of 200 Climate Resilient Infrastructure Officers in the Government of Bangladesh; (3) Integrating nature-based solutions and other adaptation solutions in at least four large-scale urban investment projects; and (4) Building the capacity of infrastructure planners and designers to meaningfully engage vulnerable communities in designing and planning large-scale green infrastructure projects.

UNRWA 2023 Emergency Appeal for the Occupied Palestinian Territory

This project provides support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East's (UNRWA) 2023 Emergency Appeal for the West Bank and Gaza. Funding contributes to: (1) providing emergency food assistance to over 1.3 million Palestinian refugees; (2) providing cash for work economic opportunities to approximately 46,000 individuals to alleviate abject poverty; (3) covering the hospitalization needs and provide critical medications to poor Palestine refugees who cannot afford care; (4) basic education and back-to-school supplies to elementary and preparatory school students (including students with disabilities); (5) school psychosocial counsellors across all UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip and mental health and psychosocial support counselling to vulnerable refugees (including women of reproductive age, children, older persons and persons with disabilities); (6) shelter repair; (7) ensuring that safe complaint and feedback channels are accessible and known to the refugee population, including complaints related to serious misconduct and sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA); (8) improved sanitation and hygiene, flood prevention and mitigation, and (9) urgent WASH facility upgrades.

This project seeks to improve climate resilient economies in 11 developing African countries. Project activities include: (1) providing training to national stakeholders on gender-responsive climate and disaster risk financing tools, including gender-specific modules; (2) purchasing insurance policies to ensure gender-equitable coverage against specific climate risks; (3) providing tailored assistance funded by the climate risk financing mechanism to climate-affected vulnerable women, men, girls and boys affected by the climate. This project directly benefits women and men who are vulnerable to climactic shock.

Türkiye - Emergency Response - Relief Supplies - CRCS - 2023

February 2023 – On February 6, 2023, a strong earthquake of 7.8 magnitude occurred in southern Türkiye, in the province of Gaziantep, close to the border with northern Syria. Successive aftershocks and a second powerful earthquake resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. The extensive damage to homes and critical infrastructure is exacerbating existing issues across the region with cold temperatures making things even worse for those affected.
With GAC’s support, the Canadian Red Cross is dispatching 22,000 units of essential supplies to support the emergency response to the Türkiye earthquakes. These items include blankets, shelter toolkits, hygiene parcels, and kitchen sets.

Project activities include: (1) Conducting research surveys on the needs, strategies and capacity of LGBTI organizations and networks; (2) Producing regional reports on LGBTI movement needs and priorities identified through the regional surveys; (3) Providing training and technical assistance on strategy development and research skills building to LGBTI organizations engaged in LGBTI movement research.

This project aims to improve maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the hinterland regions of Guyana. Project activities include: (1) providing regular obstetrician care in all community health facilities; (2) providing training in counselling for contraception and family planning at all community health facilities; and (3) providing training on advanced neonatal care to physicians and staff at Regional Hospitals.
This project targets women of reproductive age, particularly pregnant women, their infants, and adolescent girls in the hinterland regions of Guyana.

Beans for Women for Empowerment

Beans for Women for Empowerment (Beans4Women) aims to strengthen the gender equality, agency in decision-making, and resource rights of women and girls active in the bean sector in three conflict-prone provinces in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC): North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tanganyika. This project aims to support food security in eastern DRC by strengthening bean sector value chains, increasing the incomes of smallholder women, and enabling them to make a living from their land and address all related issues.
Project activities include:(1) promoting gender equity in bean value chains while addressing women's rights and access to productive resources, including land. This is through upscaling and brokering new business opportunities for women-led bean enterprises and female entrepreneurs. It also includes empowering women and girl voices in bean-economy leadership and decision-making; (2) increasing agricultural productivity by disseminating bean research products to users and improving the competence of key business actors, such as women producers and cooperatives. This includes strengthening the capacity and responsiveness of the public and private sectors to deliver gender-responsive programming and policies and doing outreach, education and bean product development activities aimed at influencing nutrition behaviours and attitudes; and (3) reducing the vulnerability of the bean value chain to climate change by accelerating the uptake of climate-smart technologies by women bean producers.

Ultimately, the project aims to promote peaceful co-existence and a sense of belonging in Lebanon. Implemented jointly by UNDP and UN Women in Lebanon, this project builds on the successes and lessons of the first phase of the project, completed with funds from the UN Peacebuilding Support Office between 2019-2021.
