Grants and Contributions

Project activities include: (1) developing a new curriculum for nurses and clinical officers; (2) obtaining the equipment required and improving the ability of the faculty members and administrative staff at the training institutes to teach and manage the midwifery and nursing programs; (3) mentoring of students and health care providers by international and national UN volunteer midwives during clinical practice to ensure the application of their skills; (3) training given by doctors working in health facilities to encourage a team approach in the provisions of midwifery and obstetric services; and (4) improving the ability of the Ministry of Health to manage and regulate the education of midwives and the ability of South Sudan's national and state-level Nursing and Midwifery Associations to advocate and promote their professions.

The project is implemented in partnership with the Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM).

McGill University will achieve this by actively involving Indigenous girls and young women who have experience in arts-based work addressing gender-based violence (GBV), in the development and implementation of community-based activities that will create inclusive spaces for Indigenous boys and young men to participate in arts-based interventions.

Project activities include: (1) training farmers (women, men, and youth), to select and utilize improved local open-pollinated seed varieties and to carry out participatory research on their own farms with technical assistance; 2) establish their own community seed banks and field gene banks to preserve the biodiversity of local crop material and build community seed self-sufficiency as a basis for food security; (3) providing information materials and agricultural extension support to small-scale farm households on agricultural best practices, including water and soil management, agroforestry and also supporting women and youth in leading their own sustainable small enterprises focused on high-value agricultural products; 4) seed marketing support; and (5) supporting government agencies, civil society organizations, and research institutions in the six developing countries by promoting the adoption of agro-ecological, participatory research and seed multiplication practices nationally, as well as regionally.

The Program also responds to the globally recognized, significant gap in funding and support to women’s rights organizations and movements around the world.

The project is implemented in Mozambique by the Centro de Aprendizagem e Capacitação da Sociedade Civil (CESC) [Learning and Capacity Building Centre for Civil Society], a Mozambican NGO.

The project builds on a 4-year pilot project implemented by War Child Canada that used interactive radio instruction to reach learners unable to participate in the formal school system.

The three key areas of focus are as follows: (1) Protecting and restoring mangroves and implementing a management plan for resources and renewable energy; (2) Enhancing and strengthening value chains, mariculture and tourism with waste management and the circular economy; (3) Promoting gender equality, the rights of the most vulnerable groups and youth employment in the economic governance of their activities in a climate change context.
