[February 2025] The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations’ frontline agency in the fight against hunger. It responds to emergencies, saves lives by quickly getting food assistance (cash or in-kind) to vulnerable food insecure populations and helps prevent hunger. As the global lead agency for logistics and emergency telecommunications, WFP plays a major role in providing common services for the humanitarian community. It transports humanitarian workers, carries light cargo for humanitarian agencies and carries out emergency medical and security evacuations. This project operates in Sub-Saharan Africa, including in Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda..

This project operates in the Middle East, including in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Syria regional and Yemen.

November 2024 - Political instability, conflict and natural disasters have left more than 25 million people across the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in need of humanitarian assistance. Populations face insecurity, malnutrition, and limited access to clean water and adequate sanitation. Also, hunger, displacement and conflict increase the risk of sexual and gender-based violence, especially for the most vulnerable

The initiative focuses on responding to the urgent health, nutrition, and protection needs of particularly vulnerable groups, including pregnant and lactating women, persons with disabilities, adolescents and young mothers, infants and children under 5, and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

Project activities include: (1) providing gender-responsive nutrition services through targeted health facilities treating severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) cases in girls and boys under 5 and Pregnant and Lactating Women and girls; (2) training health workers on optimal gender-responsive Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies practices; (3) establishing and maintaining waste segregation and disposal systems in targeted Health Facilities (HFs); (4) distributing hygiene kits to families of children with SAM and MAM cases in targeted HFs; and (5) providing gender-responsive protection services including referral, case management, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support at community level and at identified Sexual and Gender-based violence shelters.

December 2024 - As a result of the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces, Sudan is facing a complex and unprecedented humanitarian crisis. This is characterized by massive protection violations, the displacement of over 11 million people and dire levels of acute food insecurity and malnutrition in many parts of the country.

With GAC’s support, ADRA Canada aims to address the life-saving protection and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) needs of conflict-affected internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in El-Gezira and White Nile, with a particular focus on women and girls. Project activities include: (1) providing age-appropriate, gender-responsive and inclusive protection services, referrals and case management support; (2) raising awareness among community members, including men and boys, on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV); (3) providing multi-purpose cash assistance to vulnerable households; (4) rehabilitating gender-responsive and inclusive water systems, latrines and handwashing facilities; and (5) sensitizing community members on safe and environmentally-friendly hygiene practices.

Through this 17-month project, Shifra Homes Inc. will build its capacity to advance gender equality. It will address the need to improve organizational capacity in human resources, fundraising and client management, towards increasing the access to vital services for marginalized women in Burlington. The project will include: 1) a review of human resources policies and procedures; 2) the development and implementation of strategies to reduce barriers and support staff retention; 3) staff training and development of resources to improve teamwork, reduce stress and increase the organization capacity; 4) improvement of data management system for clients and donors; and 5) update of case management processes.

As part of Multinational Corporate Collaboration Program, the project “IAVI Elarex VSV Stability Study POC” will focus on proving that the Elarex formulation and process to stabilize a VSV vectored vaccine, is effective when used with IAVI's Marburg virus vaccine.

Lipid nanoparticles
