Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

YOUTH - Preclinical Research Scientist – Cardiac Models and Therapeutics
1032998
This project investigates the use of cardiac-derived biological particles as a novel, non-invasive therapy for atrial inflammation in a rat model that mimics postoperative atrial fibrillation. The particles will be administered and assessed for targeted uptake by heart tissue. The ultimate aim is to demonstrate that this approach can prevent atrial fibrosis and halt the progression of atrial fibrillation.

AI-Assisted Digital Inspection of Critical Civil Infrastructure
1033029
The project focuses on the condition assessment and performance evaluation of existing civil infrastructure using advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) methods powered by AI-driven data analysis. To achieve this, FPrimeC will develop a labeled and validated inventory of various types of damage in civil infrastructure. This inventory will be used to train a machine learning model capable of automatically detecting different types of anomalies (e.g., cracks, voids, delamination, and corrosion signatures). Once the development is completed, the trained model will be applied to evaluate the current condition of structures, predict the remaining service life, and anticipate potential failures by integrating a digital twin technology.

4-D AI- physicochemical detection of nanoplastics
1031579
The Project goals are to optimize the design of the McGill University innovation, nanodigital inline holography microscopy (AI-Nano-DIHM), such that it can be portable and deliver accurate results in real-time, remote settings of nano and microplastic detection, and four-dimensional physicochemical capability that is necessary to enable more precise identification of pollution hotspots and enhance the remediation and recycling of nano- and microplastic pollution, both in Canada and globally. Existing commercial technologies must support in situ, real-time detection while also providing physicochemical information. Despite the availability of numerous research technologies, there remains an unmet need for real-time and in-situ, four-dimensional physicochemical analysis of nano/microplastic particles. The team will conduct tests and comparisons with input from several independent stakeholders and develop data needed for modelling and sound policy. This Project will enable the further development and commercialization of the AI-Nano-DIHM technology, addressing critical environmental challenges.
