Grants and Contributions

The ICS Program is designed to foster community development by providing grants and awards to individuals and organizations for the purposes of:

- Enabling research and knowledge translation activities where the circumstances fall outside of CIHR's current suite of funding programs.

- Supporting individuals and organizations whose goals are consistent with CIHR and its Institutes' vision, mandate and strategic directions.

The ICS Program is not intended to support the direct cost of research (e.g., pilot projects, feasibility studies or operating grants), principal and co-investigator salaries or research equipment.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

• To generate knowledge and support knowledge mobilization about effective interventions and models of care for psychosocial health and self-management for people living with diabetes
• To advance development and implementation of interventions or models of care to improve the psychosocial health of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D)
• To improve Indigenous-led, community-driven prevention of type 2 diabetes (T2D), support of psychosocial health and resilience, models of care and self-management for Indigenous youth and young adults living with or at risk of T2D
• To improve prevention of T2D, support of psychosocial health and resilience, models of care and self-management for youth and young adults living with or at risk of T2D in racialized, ethnocultural and low socio-economic status communities that are disproportionately affected by T2D

The specific objective(s) of this funding opportunity are to:

• Identify evidence-informed, actionable solutions: Generate actionable evidence on promising integrated care policies and/or delivery system interventions that can advance any/all of the Quadruple Aim goals and health equity.
• Advance the field of implementation science: Advance the evidence base on how to implement, evaluate, adapt and spread evidence-informed, equitable integrated care policies and interventions across different health system and population contexts.
• Build capacity: Develop human (e.g., diverse and inclusive engagement of providers, patients, decision-makers, trainees, early career researchers) and organizational capacity (e.g., embedded research, rapid learning and improvement of health systems, organizational readiness) for actionable evidence on implementation, evaluation, and/or spread and scale of integrated care policies and interventions.
• Spark collaborations: Build strong interdisciplinary, multi-sectoral collaborations and partnerships among researchers, policy makers, decision makers, healthcare providers, patients and public communities interested in advancing transformative integrated care.
• Foster knowledge mobilization and impact: Foster knowledge mobilization activities throughout the research process to inform the local adaptation, implementation and adoption of integrated care policies and interventions at the community-level and/or population levels.

Mobilize and scale-up newly generated and existing knowledge and models of care into effective, gender-sensitive and culturally appropriate women’s health and wellness services across Canada.
2. Maximize research impact within and beyond the Coalition (hubs and the coordinating centre) to help ensure evidence is integrated into health policies, decision making, and planning to support community, regional, provincial, territorial, and/or federal efforts regarding women’s health.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

1. Communicate and disseminate high-quality research evidence, including but not limited to CIHR-funded research, on a health research topic of public interest in an easily-understood and interesting format;
2. Promote the mobilization of knowledge between CIHR’s health research community and members of the Canadian public to increase the impact of health research;
3. Foster engagement between health researchers and knowledge users to encourage participatory approaches to knowledge mobilization in health research; and
4. Encourage Canadians to contribute their views on future research directions.
