The Secretariat of the Network is hosted by IISD. The proposed project, to be delivered through the NAP Global Network, aims to support selected countries to improve governance of climate change adaptation through more effective, gender-responsive, and socially inclusive NAP processes, with a focus SIDS, LDCs, and Sub-Saharan African countries.

This project aims to improve low carbon, climate resilent economies in rural areas of Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe for enhanced well-being of communities, especially women, girls, and other vulnerable groups. The project will use Nature-based Solutions coupled with landscape level restoration as a solution to increasing threats to livelihoods and food security that make a key contribution to climate change adaptation. This project will contribute to restoring ecological functionality and enhancing human well-being in rural areas and increase the ability of targeted landscapes to absorb biophysical shocks and stresses caused by increased climate change.

Project activities include : (1) Gender responsive Nature-based Solutions experimentation-innovation-learning cycles completed with women, girls, and other vulnerable groups; (2) Facilitation of water efficient and nature positive agriculture; and (3) Gender-responsive awareness and advocay campaings carried out on inclusive community and landscape governance, relevant policies, and role of women in biodiversity conservation and landscape governance.

This project represents Canada’s contribution to the effective functioning of the ACS for the 2023 calendar year.

This project continues and builds on past support to the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) and seeks to address urgent peacebuilding needs in fragile and conflict-affected states through locally-led, gender and youth-responsive, catalytic investments. Project activities include: (1) supporting fast and flexible initiatives that address gender and youth inclusion; (2) facilitating United Nations transitions from peacekeeping to local level peacebuilding; and (3) supporting cross-border and regional programs.

However, the processes used to convert cells taken from a patient into a therapeutic product could be more efficient and easier to control. The project focuses on iPSC-derived CAR-NK immune cells, an upcoming anticancer therapy technology in which cells from a patient are modified and reintroduced to stimulate the patient's anticancer immune defences. Previous studies show that current production methods yield a low number of CAR-NK cells and that these cells rapidly lose their therapeutic attributes. The project investigates if new genome engineering strategies can improve the production of iPSC-derived CAR-NK immune cells.

This is particularly true for the growing senior population, increasing risk of social isolation, falls, and loss of independence. In this work, the project team will explore and evaluate emerging solutions to managing mobility disabilities in community-dwelling older adults.

Advances exploratory research under the New Beginnings Initiative

The project team will utilize a quantum annealing processors for replacing the computationally expensive first-principles simulation with synthetic data generated by a quantum-assisted Machine Learning model – the Quantum Variational Autoencoder (QVAE).
