The Recipient agrees to: contribute to addressing the overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the criminal justice system through activities such as Gladue aftercare, civil/family mediation, prevention, diversion and/or reintegration.

The project will conduct a review and analysis of existing resources in regional, remote, and northern Manitoba, while exploring opportunities to integrate Protection Order Designates programming and training. In the final two years, the project will implement pilot projects to test models to provide services at a regional level.

The funding will support the operation and expansion of existing Drug Treatment Courts (DTCs) as well as the establishment of new DTCs. This funding will contribute to reduce recidivism rates by supporting eligible offenders in addressing their cycle of problematic substance use and criminal behaviour through the availability of treatment as an alternative to incarceration.

The objective of the Indigenous Courtwork Program is to facilitate and enhance access to justice by assisting Indigenous Persons (adults and youth) charged with an offence under any federal or provincial statute, municipal by-law, or otherwise involved in the criminal justice system to obtain fair, just, equitable and culturally relevant treatment. These services include information on charges, court procedures, rights and responsibilities, bail, diversion, restorative justice and Indigenous community justice alternatives; support in accessing legal resources as well as appropriate community programming including wellness, trauma, housing, family and employment services; and, facilitating communication among court officials, accused persons, family members and communities to ensure understanding and collaboration.

The purpose of this contribution is to reimburse Paul Cavalluzzo for activities undertaken by him in his role as a Special Advocate in relation to hearings before the Federal Court of Canada.

Jurisdictional funding agreement for State-Funded Counsel.

This project will support the ongoing service delivery of the Central Alberta Child Advocacy Centre's Child and Family Advocacy Program, with the primary objective to support children, youth and families impacted by abuse with specialized support, advocacy, referrals, resources, and programming from disclosure of abuse through investigation, judicial activities and healing processes.

Over the next five years, the project will develop and pilot services at the Chinook Child and Youth Advocacy Centre in Southwestern Alberta. The Centre will be a multidisciplinary service to address the needs of child and youth victims and/or witnesses as they navigate the criminal justice system, thereby minimizing system-induced trauma by providing a single, child-friendly setting for young victims or witnesses and their families seeking services.
