The aim of the Project is to investigate on the array designs of dense 2-dimensional nano-antennas and to provide an optimized system implementation of the integrated optical phased arrays (OPA). The far-field radiation pattern of the OPA array is formed by the coherent superposition of the radiation of each individual nano-antenna. Leveraging the existing simulation and design work on silicon waveguide nano-antennas, project team plans to design the antenna spacing and 2D configuration to achieve the optimized far-field radiation pattern with the best sidelobe suppression. The team also plans to realize a dense array of a 100-500-antenna 2-dimensional OPA system for an experimental proof-of-concept demonstration.

This contribution will strengthen the Haida Gwaii Watchmen Program by providing additional support for salaries/benefits for the 2021 season, and by supporting youth to work as Watchmen. The contribution will also support equipment purchases for future seasons, and necessary repairs to the Windy Bay Watchmen Cabin and Looking Around Blinking House, a culturally significant longhouse in Gwaii Haanas.

This contribution enables Inuit Heritage Trust to deliver a cultural heritage gathering of twenty-five Inuit communities for the first time since 2005. Inuit Heritage Trust is the lead on planning for the Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre and this gathering will provide an opportunity for community members to provide input into the architectural design, name, and proposed exhibitions and programs.

This grant enables the establishment of monitoring stations to promote the acquisition of biophysical knowledge in the southern peripheral area of La Mauricie National Park. This area is the subject of a request for regulatory status in the form of a “Biodiversity Reserve”.

This contribution supports the Métis Eastern Region III to further research and gather information from the wider Eastern Region III and surrounding area to shared with the public through an online interactive story map that is already in use. The funding will also be used to further present Métis history and culture to the public through a variety of cultural experience activities at the Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site.

The contribution enables youth between the ages of 18-25 to participate in a series of year round land based mentorship programs that will preserve and promote cultural heritage. Through the series of cultural sharing workshops, the Indigenous community will preserve and pass on valuable cultural knowledge and skills to current generations, safeguarding traditional ways of living from further loss. These land-based experiences will also expose youth to a series of cultural teachings, sustainable land-based skills and a series of character-building workshops.

This contribution enables the Manitoba Métis Federation to build internal capacity to support the involvement of Métis perspectives and knowledge in establishing protected and other conserved areas in Manitoba.
