Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

EFFECT OF NOISE SENSITIVITIES ON PERCEPTION OF ENVIRONMENT AMONGST AGING ADULTS
1001446
One’s environment can have a significant effect on one’s wellbeing. Even an inviting room with light and warmth can be ruined by noise from neighbors intruding in the space or the fear of making noise that disturbs the neighbors. Impact noises from neighbors can negatively affect a person’s mental and physical wellbeing with people who are described as noise sensitive being affected the most. Often, people don’t equate the noises to the poor design of the dwelling. Instead, they consider their neighbors to be inconsiderate and people will often withdraw from the very social interactions with neighbors that are so important to many people who are aging in place. This project, which is a collaboration between the NRC and AIST in Japan, aims to develop guidance for the minimum protection from noise for dwellings for aging in place and to study noise sensitivity and if it can be reduced.

Linear Covalently Closed DNA Ministring (msDNA) Product and Production Process Development
1001542
This project will optimize the ministring DNA™ (msDNA™) production process to improve yield and purity while also making the process more stable, robust, and resistant to supply chain disruption, while also making the materials safer in the eyes of regulatory agencies by eliminating antibiotic usage from upstream production. Additionally, this project will evaluate next generation msDNA™ constructs to improve the therapeutic effectiveness of the drug substance. In summary, the outcomes of this project will improve the msDNA™ product, the production process, and facilitate the smooth and rapid transition to large-scale production to support Mediphage's genetic medicine program.
