Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Cartridge-Based Solution for Measuring SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater
979698
SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19, can be detected in wastewater either by detection of the virus, its breakdown products, antibodies produced in response to the virus or other compounds produced in response to the virus. Wastewater based detection of SARS-CoV-2 provides early warning to the emergence of outbreaks and can monitor community infection trends. Wastewater signals can inform more efficient public health action and help mitigate the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. For wastewater monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 to be successful in providing actionable public health intelligence these signals must be detected quickly, and directly at the point of sampling.

Collaborative Cross-Sectoral Strategies Advancing Equality for Expectant Homeless and At-Risk Youth, Women and their Babies
AB21273
This 29-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through systemic change. Emma Maternity House Society will achieve this by forming an advisory committee comprised of key multi-sectoral stakeholders; engaging community leaders, service providers, government officials, and women with lived experience from across Alberta in discussions on the disproportionate impacts of the pandemic on homeless pregnant women; compiling and analyzing research and stakeholder feedback to develop recommendations and strategies for combating identified predominant barriers to equality; and conducting a symposium to broadly share project findings, highlight best practices, and mobilize support across sectors for resources, policies, and practices that are inclusive and take an intersectional approach.

Collaborating to Support Survivors and Women at Risk of FGM/C in the Era of COVID-19
GV21850
This 29-month project will develop, implement, pilot and disseminate a community-based pandemic recovery model to address the root causes of gender-based violence. Women’s Health in Women’s Hands will achieve this by 1) developing education and awareness-raising resources to add to a Toolkit for survivors of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM-C) and healthcare & community service providers, including an online website with resources, 2) recruiting 15 participants with lived experience of FGM-C in order to create short videos/documentaries on the subject and raise awareness on the issue, 3) distributing updated Toolkit through different media platforms, and 4) delivering webinars and workshops to healthcare & community service providers on culturally-appropriate and trauma informed service methods.
At the end of the project, the organization will have developed a promising practice that increased the efficacy of the Toolkit for survivors, healthcare and community service providers with regards to FGM-C.
The project will engage more than 100 healthcare and community service providers and 5,000 survivors and their families on issues of gender-based violence and FGM-C. The effectiveness of the Toolkit will be documented through an ongoing evaluation.
