Participation in the REGARD short film festival will include panels and networking sessions which, along with organized events, will provide opportunities to meet local producers, distributors, and decision-makers in the film industry.

Through this 33-month project, Edmonton 2 Spirit Society will increase its ability to prevent or address gender-based violence against Indigenous women, girls, or 2SLGBTQQIA+ people with a focus on their local community. This will be achieved by reviewing the existing governance structure to improve their governance practices and building new partnerships to expand their networks in consort with strengthening their existing alliances.

Hiatus House will achieve this by developing and implementing community-wide approaches to address barriers for women from diverse backgrounds who are experiencing gender-based violence; building relationships between equality-seeking organizations and other stakeholders to collaborate across sectors to advance gender equality, and; by improving the local system's ability to recognize and respond to gender based violence.

This project will bring together the Restigouche and Avignon regions’ women and girls with lived experience, as well as local businesses, private sector and other sectors across these regions to document the challenges experienced due to the pandemic, and to lead the dissemination of key recommendations for policy and programs towards a recovery from the impacts of COVID-19.

This project will result in an Indigenous women and family-centered VRC that will make local Indigenous knowledge and key teachings accessible to intersectional community partners agencies and integrate regular programs such as art and cultural circles, peer support and mentorship to increase access for women.

This project will build and enhance partnerships between women’s organizations, Indigenous groups, immigrant services, LGBTQ2S+ groups, and local non-profit community organizations. Recommendations to address women’s inequality and the COVID-19 economic recovery plan will be shared with organizational partners and government stakeholders.

Project activities include: (1) promoting life skills and SRHR through the use of safe spaces, peer mentoring and girls' clubs; (2) training local sexual and reproductive health service providers to meet girls' and young women's needs; (3) educating family members, community religious leaders, and boys and men on the importance of girls' education and their SRHR; (4) improving SRHR policies and programming capacity through improved data, monitoring and evaluation and coordination; and (5) amplifying confidential access to SRHR information for girls and young women through innovative use of communications technologies, such as online interactive counselling and text messaging.

Project activities include: (1) advocating to government at local, state or national levels, as well as to non-governmental decision-makers, in order for them to enact policy or legislative change and to implement these changes; (2) delivering sexual and reproductive health and rights services paired with advocacy; and (3) increasing awareness of sexual and reproductive health and rights, including the right to be free from sexual and gender-based violence, within communities, schools, and in public awareness campaigns to promote national dialogue on the barriers to those rights and the need for change.

The project aims to establish strategic partnerships with 40 local and 10 national policy-makers, in addition to at least 200 practitioners/service providers and 15 civil society organizations.

After digitizing the Crowshoe collection, we will work with the United Way of Calgary and Area (UWCA) to produce copies for archival purposes and share among local Elders.

The project’s second goal will be to train a Blackfoot cultural consultant to index, archive and organize the digitized collection.
