The Climate Resilience through Empowering Women project aims to strengthen the climate resilience of coffee-growing communities in Southern Ethiopia while promoting the economic empowerment of marginalized women. The project is expected to deliver changes at the farm or household, mill, and wider industry levels to adapt to a changing climate, with a particular focus on women, who, despite playing a critical role in coffee production and processing, are economically marginalized. Also, they are routinely excluded from positions of leadership, influence, and decision-making. The project activities include: (1) increasing women’s empowerment to equip and empower Ethiopian women as leaders in the rejuvenation of coffee farms and the production of climate resilient, specialty coffee; and (2) enhancing climate change mitigation to protect and replenish the coffee forests of western and southern Ethiopia to ensure continued capture of greenhouse gases. This would reduce the vulnerability of coffee farms to increases in temperature and precipitation. The project benefits 77,000 women and men smallholder coffee farmers.

The RÉELS project aims to strengthen the capacities of women, communities and local organizations to identify the vulnerability of ecosystems and biodiversity in their territory and to identify nature-based solutions as a tool for adaptation to climate change. These solutions can be integrated into community development plans. A more sustainable and equitable use of restored or safeguarded ecosystems will reduce conflicts related to natural resources and promote better social cohesion in the Liptako-Gourma region. This project falls under the Environment and Climate Action and Inclusive Governance components of Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy. The initiative will also strengthen Canada's involvement in the Sahel Alliance and its ministerial commitments on food security and in the fight against climate change.

The overarching objective of the work supported by the UN Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Torture is to assist victims of torture and their families to rebuild their lives through the award of grants through a variety of channels, including: civil society organizations, associations of victims, private and public hospitals, legal clinics, public interest law firms, and community organizations.

This project seeks to reduce climate and disaster risk in Latin America and the Caribbean through the accelerated implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, ensuring that it incorporates a climate-smart, gender-responsive approach to foster greener, more sustainable, and equitable communities. It also seeks to improve climate-smart disaster prevention by reducing existing climate and disaster risks and avoiding generating new and emerging risks. Project activities include: (1) creating conditions to strengthen gender equality and women’s empowerment in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction processes throughout the region; and (2) strengthening the understanding of disaster risks, including vulnerability, exposure, a lack of coping capacity. This allows for more comprehensive, climate-smart and risk-informed decision-making at the individual, household, community, national, and regional levels.
