Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

The Courage to Act 2: Addressing and Preventing GBV on Campus
NA21914
This 22-month project will serve as a continuation of the previous WAGE-funded project entitled ‘The Courage to Act: National Framework to Address and Prevent Gender Based Violence on Post-Secondary Campuses,’ and will continue to address and prevent gender-based violence at post-secondary institutions across Canada.
In collaboration with over 100 partners across Canada, Courage to Act (C2A) will develop and pilot tools, create resources, and share strategies to harmonize approaches to addressing and preventing gender-based violence (GBV) at post-secondary institutions (PSIs).
Through this second phase, Possibility Seeds will build upon the Courage to Act Report and Action Plan, which identifies key next steps, including creating evidence-based tools; engaging the Courage to Act network (i.e. community colleges, universities,
Canadian Union of Public Employees, and sexual assault service associations) through bi-monthly skill share meetings and expanding the knowledge centre; and piloting, evaluating, and refining tools, policies, and procedures developed.

Police action to prevent intrafamilial homicides
QC21776
This 28-month project will develop and implement an Intrafamilial Homicides (IH) risk assessment tool to better equip the Montreal police department (SPVM) in their efforts to address the deeper causes of gender-based violence in Montréal. The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) will achieve this objective by collecting data and analyzing SPVM records on 1) intrafamilial homicides, 2) attempted murders and 3) family/intimate partner violence to explore promising practices in preventing IH and to analyze changes in practices that could improve the SPVM’s current response. In addition, a data watch on IH prevention will be established to track any changes in practices within the SPVM and their impact on improving support for IH victims in the Montreal area.
By the end of the project, UQAM will have contributed to eliminating violence against women and girls by enhancing the police response to family and intimate partner violence in an effort to prevent intrafamilial (IH) homicides.
