This project aims to address gender inequality and achieve environmental justice by empowering environmental, climate, and women’s rights movements and groups in developing countries. It seeks to influence key decision-makers (governments, investors and donors) to take urgent action to divest from fossil fuel industries, defend critical ecosystems, and support inclusive, sustainable and gender-just climate solutions. The Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action, led by the Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres, a women’s fund working in Central America in collaboration with Both ENDS, a global environmental justice NGO, and Mama Cash, a women’s fund working internationally implements this project.

Project activities include: (1) strengthening the capacities of women-led Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) in the Global South to lead lobbying and advocacy activities for gender-just climate solutions; (2) linking climate, environmental and women’s rights movements across local and national levels in selected countries, and regionally and internationally; and (3) improving engagement of women-led CBOs, activists, and women environmental and human right’s defenders in decision-making on climate policy, investments, and donor funding for inclusive and gender-just climate and environmental actions.

The project’s directly benefits women, women-led CBOs, and women and environmental rights defenders from developing countries eligible for international assistance in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Pacific who are working towards advancing the gender-just climate solutions. The Project ultimately benefits 100 to 150 CBOs from Indigenous, rural, marginalized and vulnerable communities.

The National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Global Network is a multi-donor, multi-country initiative that aims to advance national adaptation planning and action in developing countries. The Secretariat of the Network is hosted by IISD. The proposed project, to be delivered through the NAP Global Network, aims to support selected countries to improve governance of climate change adaptation through more effective, gender-responsive, and socially inclusive NAP processes, with a focus SIDS, LDCs, and Sub-Saharan African countries. Activities will improve capacities, enhance participation of stakeholders, and increase awareness and recognition of the importance of effective, gender-responsive, and socially inclusive NAP processes. By improving governance of adaptation, the initiative will contribute to reduced vulnerability to climate change for people of all genders and social groups in the target countries, which is a prerequisite for reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development.

This project aims to improve low carbon, climate resilent economies in rural areas of Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe for enhanced well-being of communities, especially women, girls, and other vulnerable groups. The project will use Nature-based Solutions coupled with landscape level restoration as a solution to increasing threats to livelihoods and food security that make a key contribution to climate change adaptation. This project will contribute to restoring ecological functionality and enhancing human well-being in rural areas and increase the ability of targeted landscapes to absorb biophysical shocks and stresses caused by increased climate change.

Project activities include : (1) Gender responsive Nature-based Solutions experimentation-innovation-learning cycles completed with women, girls, and other vulnerable groups; (2) Facilitation of water efficient and nature positive agriculture; and (3) Gender-responsive awareness and advocay campaings carried out on inclusive community and landscape governance, relevant policies, and role of women in biodiversity conservation and landscape governance.

This project represents Canada’s contribution to the effective functioning of the ACS for the 2023 calendar year. The proposed grant will allow the ACS to carry out the activities required for its operations as outlined in the ACS work plan approved by Arctic Council Ministers, and as overseen by SAOs and Permanent Participant Heads of Delegation, including but not limited to:
Administrative and coordination of Arctic Council:
? Preparing and coordinating SAO, Ministerial, and other meetings;
? Reporting and ensuring the management of regular correspondence;
? Managing meeting and other documents, and archiving as appropriate;
? Coordinating relationships with Observers and other external bodies;
? Facilitating the Chairmanship transition process; and,

This project continues and builds on past support to the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) and seeks to address urgent peacebuilding needs in fragile and conflict-affected states through locally-led, gender and youth-responsive, catalytic investments. Project activities include: (1) supporting fast and flexible initiatives that address gender and youth inclusion; (2) facilitating United Nations transitions from peacekeeping to local level peacebuilding; and (3) supporting cross-border and regional programs.

February 2023 – The humanitarian situation in Türkiye and Syria deteriorated significantly following powerful earthquakes that struck south-east Türkiye and north-west Syria on February 6 and February 20. The earthquakes and aftershocks resulted in widespread damages and high casualties in both countries. The UN estimates that at least 9.1 million people in Turkey and 8.8 million people in Syria have been affected by the earthquake, with the majority anticipated to need some form of humanitarian assistance in the coming months. In Türkiye, a state of emergency was declared in 10 provinces as people were left without access to shelter, food, water, heaters and medical care in harsh winter conditions. In Syria, the response is further complicated by pre-existing large scale humanitarian needs, severe access constraints for humanitarian aid, and weak infrastructure from over a decade of armed conflict.

This project aims to address a funding gap related to the menstrual health component of a pilot program entitled Enhancing food and nutrition security and health for vulnerable urban dwellers in Bangladesh. The World Food Programme (WFP), the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) implements the program.
