Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Sensor networks for safe and engaged mature drivers (SENSE-MD)
994736
Canada's size and weather causes many older Canadians Aging in Place to drive. Aging brings natural and illness-related health declines making mature drivers at risk for driving accidents. Furthermore, unplanned driving cessation causes isolation, leading to increased risk of dementia, poorer physical and mental health, and reduced ability to engage in social, physical activities. The SENSE-MD project aims to provide a solution for a key missing element in the current driver assessment regime: knowledge of changes in risk and driving capacity based on valuable data from onboard vehicle sensors. Clinical assessments are infrequent and only indirectly measure driving skills, increasing risks for premature driving cessation and isolation. The SENSE-MD project addresses the NRC Connection Pillar offering a technology-based solution that delivers information, based on a communication model, regarding changes in driver risk to the mature Canadian drivers, their family, and caregivers, while keeping the driver central to information sharing.

RoBird Business Unit Manufacturing and Assembly Optimization
994784
AERIUM’s RoBird® ornithopter is a high-tech example of biomimicry which has been established as an important tool in the field of Wildlife Management at airports, mining facilities, and other sites where wild birds are susceptible to injury and death simply by being in the wrong place. The current state of RoBird® production is such that many processes are completed by hand in a time consuming and expensive process. The goal of this project is to acquire both expertise and design services that will allow AERIUM to scale and automate production processes, growing RoBird® manufacturing from approximately 20 units per year to more than 60 units per year by the end of the project date, and to hundreds of units per year in 2024.

Energy management for small buildings
994808
The project entails building a cloud-based system, which could enable monitoring and control of various components within a building's structure, such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and energy consumption. The primary goal of this type of infrastructure is to improve system efficiency, reduce operating costs, optimize energy consumption and increase safety. A centralized cloud-based platform will bring all of these parts together while providing additional analytics, dashboards and valuable reporting to the building operators.
