Grants and Contributions
About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Laser Atherectomy Using Picosecond Mid-Infrared Lasers
995219
We are developing and validating a surgical instrument using new laser technology to solve longstanding problems in the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD). If we can eliminate the deleterious effects of debulking sclerotic tissue caused by current methods of mechanical or conventional laser treatment, we can provide better outcomes for patients and reduce the costs of treating this widespread disease.

Developing processing algorithms for building component models
995399
This project tackles a novel technical challenge in the use of robotic automation for the production and assembly of light-wood-framing building components. The adoption of generic robots removes the restriction on acquiring dedicated special-purpose CNC machinery in the existing production line, thereby creating a scalable and flexible prefabrication solution for the housing industry. Specifically, the goal of the project is to create an AI-assisted pipeline from CAD to Robotic Aided Manufacturing to generate robotic control code, sequencing and motion planning. This project will result in a complete automated software workflow for offline planning and motion control of robotics for building component manufacturing.

Usability and practical utility factors of virtual cardiac rehabilitation for cardiac rehabilitation patients
995424
This project addresses current gaps in the delivery of virtual care in cardiac rehabilitation (VCR) as identified in the literature. Gaps include: the availability and accessibility of home and telehealth based interventions, including VCR technologies tailored to the needs of older adults, a lack of human-centered design, human-computer interaction, and human factors research in designing health applications for older adults, and a lack of involvement of older adults and healthcare providers in the design of technology solutions. Our project aims to address these gaps by involving patients and healthcare professionals in the co?design of tools and systems from the onset, in order to better address their needs and preferences and to encourage greater uptake of cardiac rehabilitation and technology adoption.
