Grants and Contributions

The Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies will provide multi-year funding for applications that have a primary research objective on preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from existing and future pandemics and other health emergencies. While all relevant research applications within this scope are eligible, projects that focus on the prevention of and/or recovery from pandemics and health emergencies are strongly encouraged.

In addition, projects that include at least one of the following topics/themes are also encouraged:

• Clinical, population health or health systems research
• Knowledge Mobilization
• Effect of social, cultural, environmental, structural and/or biological determinants of health or health equity on prevention and / or recovery
• Research priorities identified by First Nation, Inuit, Métis and/or Urban Indigenous communities
• Evaluation of effective science communications and/or knowledge mobilization activities related to prevention and/or recovery
• Evaluation of systems that enable effective and efficient prevention, and/or recovery

*For the purpose of this Priority Announcement, a health emergency is defined as:

A present or imminent event or phenomenon, of a temporary, acute nature, with actual or potential significant negative impacts on human health, resulting in a serious disruption of the functioning of a community; and/or the declaration of a state of emergency by a municipal, provincial/territorial, federal and/or Indigenous government, or international organization with a health research mandate, and which requires prompt research action to protect and strengthen human health

• This Priority Announcement will fund pediatric cancer research that can lead to better outcomes and healthier lives for pediatric cancer patients and their families. The aim is to support promising research projects with the greatest potential for advancing knowledge and improving outcomes.
• Projects must directly and primarily focus on pediatric cancer and pediatric populations (children, adolescents and young adults living with cancer and their families).

• This Priority Announcement will fund pediatric cancer research that can lead to better outcomes and healthier lives for pediatric cancer patients and their families. The aim is to support promising research projects with the greatest potential for advancing knowledge and improving outcomes.
• Projects must directly and primarily focus on pediatric cancer and pediatric populations (children, adolescents and young adults living with cancer and their families).

• Incorporating sex and gender into health research makes for better science that is more rigorous and more applicable to the needs of everybody. The CIHR Institute of Gender and Health (CIHR-IGH) will provide bridge funding for applications that are relevant to its mandate:
o CIHR-IGH mandate is to foster research excellence regarding the influence of sex and gender on health and to apply these findings to identify and address pressing health challenges facing men, women, girls, boys and gender-diverse people.
• These one (1) year operating grants afford Principal Investigators an opportunity to resubmit their research proposal without the loss of momentum, staff, or trainees.

The specific objective of this funding opportunity is to:

• Create new knowledge through the analysis of existing cohorts, data platforms and/or administrative datasets specific to reproductive, maternal, child, and/or youth health, and in turn improve health outcomes and inform population and public health decision making.

• This priority announcement is designed to support research that reduces the burden of breast cancer on individuals and families through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, effective treatment, psycho-social support systems, and palliation.
• This priority announcement will fund research in the following research area:

• The CIHR Institute of Cancer Research (CIHR-ICR) has a mandate to support research that reduces the burden of cancer on individuals and families through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, effective treatments, psycho-social support systems, and palliation.

o The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) supports research that reduces the burden of cancer on individuals and families through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, effective treatments, psycho-social support systems, and palliation

Bridge funding can be used at the NPAs discretion to catalyze work on their proposed project in the manner they feel best moves forward their research program, for example, collection of pilot data, demonstration of feasibility, or work to address peer review comments.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Empower and support communities and researchers to collaboratively adapt, implement and evaluate healthy cities interventions with the ultimate goals of maximizing the success, long-term sustainability, health and equity-promoting potential of interventions
• Build capacity among knowledge users and implementers to continually monitor and improve urban environments to meet the needs of people of all ages, abilities, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
