Grants and Contributions

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• Support policy research on how changes and/or different approaches to the financing, funding, organization, governance and/or delivery of health care systems and/or services and public health systems and/or services can impact the Quadruple Aim and health equity.
• Advance the methods and/or measurement approaches for health policy research.
• Mobilize diverse methodologies, multiple disciplines and perspectives, and knowledge mobilization approaches to generate evidence that is relevant and useful for policymakers.
• Provide policymakers with evidence-informed, contextualized policy options to support high-performing health systems and/or services (in the health care and/or public health settings) that advance the Quadruple Aim and health equity.
• Foster the creation of new or strengthening of existing partnerships and collaborations between researchers, policymakers and knowledge users with lived experience to align research with policy priorities by working together in pursuit of evidence-informed health systems transformation.

• Provide policymakers with evidence-informed, contextualized policy options to support high-performing health systems and/or services (in the health care and/or public health settings) that advance the Quadruple Aim and health equity.
• Foster the creation of new or strengthening of existing partnerships and collaborations between researchers, policymakers and knowledge users with lived experience to align research with policy priorities by working together in pursuit of evidence-informed health systems transformation.

• Incorporating sex and gender into health research makes for better science that is more rigorous and more applicable to the needs of everybody. The CIHR Institute of Gender and Health (CIHR-IGH) will provide bridge funding for applications that are relevant to its mandate:
o CIHR-IGH mandate is to foster research excellence regarding the influence of sex and gender on health and to apply these findings to identify and address pressing health challenges facing men, women, girls, boys and gender-diverse people.
• These one (1) year operating grants afford Principal Investigators an opportunity to resubmit their research proposal without the loss of momentum, staff, or trainees.

• These one (1) year operating grants afford Early Career Researchers an opportunity to advance their women’s health research program.

The CIHR Institute of Aging (CIHR-IA) will fund applications that are relevant to one of the Institute of Aging’s Strategic Directions as described below:

• Strategic Direction 1: Health and Wellness over the Trajectory of Aging
Priority Areas:
¿ Life trajectory as a determinant of healthy and satisfying aging
¿ Added life to the later years
• Strategic Direction 2: Facing the Complex Health Challenges of an Older Population

¿ Understanding, preventing and addressing multiple chronic conditions
¿ Facing the challenge of dementia
¿ Recognizing new emerging aging populations
¿ Ensuring the adaptation of healthcare and services to an aging population

The CIHR-IPPH Trailblazer Award is designed to recognize the exemplary efforts and activities of exceptional Canadian researchers at different career stages who have created a highly influential body of work that has had a substantial impact on the field of population and public health research. The award also recognizes the leadership, mentorship, and innovative contributions of the recipients

• CIHR-IG will provide funding for applications that are determined to be relevant to its mandate:
o The Institute of Genetics (IG) supports research on the human and model genomes and on all aspects of genetics, basic biochemistry and cell biology related to health and disease, including the translation of knowledge into health policy and practice, and the societal implications of genetic discoveries

• CIHR-IG will provide funding for applications that are determined to be relevant to its mandate:
o The Institute of Genetics (IG) supports research on the human and model genomes and on all aspects of genetics, basic biochemistry and cell biology related to health and disease, including the translation of knowledge into health policy and practice, and the societal implications of genetic discoveries

• The CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (CIHR-III) will fund applications that are determined to be specifically relevant to their mandate with a primary focus on biomedical research in which the objective and aims are directed towards building foundational knowledge in immunology and/or infectious diseases. This priority announcement will prioritize funding for research in the following research areas:
o Infection:
¿ Zoonotic or vector-borne transmission of pathogens in the context of Global Climate Change;
¿ Understanding functional genomics and/or molecular epidemiology of emerging/re-emerging pathogens;
¿ Resistance to fungal infections and/or the role of bacteriophages in combatting antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
o Immunity:
¿ Immune mechanisms involved in the development of trained innate immunity;
¿ Immune mechanisms involved in the development and maintenance of tissue-specific immunity;
¿ Metabolic regulation of immune cells and processes (immunometabolism).
• Should there be no eligible applications relevant to the research areas identified above, III will fund applications that are relevant to its mandate with a primary focus on biomedical research in which the objective and aims are directed towards building foundational knowledge in immunology and/or infectious diseases.

• The CIHR Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (CIHR-IMHA) will fund applications that are determined to be relevant to its mandate and research priority areas as described below:
o IMHA Mandate:
¿ IMHA is mandated to provide research leadership related to: active living, mobility and the wide range of conditions related to bones, joints, muscles, connective tissue, skin as well as the mouth, teeth and craniofacial region.
o Research Priority Areas:
¿ Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME)
¿ Pain
¿ Oral Health
