The CIHR Institute of Cancer Research (CIHR-ICR) has a mandate to support research that reduces the burden of cancer on individuals and families through prevention strategies, screening, diagnosis, effective treatments, psycho-social support systems, and palliation.

This PA will fund Cancer research in the following priority areas:

• Cancer Prevention and/or Early Detection of Cancer
o research that prevents the onset of cancer (lowers cancer risk) and/or reduces the severity of the disease through early detection when it is at its most treatable.
• Cancer Survivorship
o research that mitigates the challenges experienced along the cancer survivorship journey and improves the health outcomes for cancer survivors of all ages after cancer treatment ends.
o specifically in the areas of:
¿ Late and long-term effects of cancer treatment
¿ Survivors’ experiences and outcomes
¿ Models of care for cancer survivorship
o This PA will not fund research focused on improving end-of-life care.

This PA supports research that creates new knowledge and/or moves it into practice in the health system, communities, workplaces, and in the daily lives of Canadians.

The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (CIHR-ICRH) has the broad mandate of supporting research on the heart, lung, brain (stroke), blood, blood vessels, critical and intensive care, and sleep.
This Priority Announcement is focused on inherited blood disorders across the lifespan.
• The proposed research should inform the prevention and treatment of end-organ damage, the development of new and/or curative therapies and/or interventions aimed at improving quality of life.
• Research focusing on more than one (1) developmental or intergenerational period over the lifespan is encouraged. Examples include, but are not limited to:
o one developmental period before and after age 18, or
o different developmental periods across generations (e.g. biological parent and fetus or offspring), or
o two (2) developmental periods in females related to puberty, child-bearing age and menopause.
• Sex and gender consideration should be integrated as appropriate.

The CIHR Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research Initiative supports the development of broader, more cohesive engagement and actions, methods and tools to combat AMR and improve antimicrobial use.

o research that supports CIHR-ICR’s mandate in the area of Breast Cancer.
• Breast Cancer Prevention and/or Early Detection of Breast Cancer
o research that prevents the onset of breast cancer (lowers cancer risk) and/or reduces the severity of the disease through early detection when it is at its most treatable.
• Breast Cancer Survivorship
o research that mitigates the challenges experienced along the breast cancer survivorship journey and improves the health outcomes for breast cancer survivors of all ages after cancer treatment ends.
o specifically in the areas of:
¿ Late and long-term effects of cancer treatment
¿ Survivors’ experiences and outcomes
¿ Models of care for cancer survivorship

The Project Grant program is expected to:
• Support a diverse portfolio of health-related research and knowledge translation proposals at any stage, from discovery to application, including commercialization;
• Promote relevant collaborations across disciplines, professions, and sectors; and
• Contribute to the creation and use of health-related knowledge.
