Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Novel Automated Remote Wellness and Health Analysis of Lipids (NARWHAL)

Agreement Number:

996944

Duration: from Nov 1, 2022 to Oct 31, 2025
Description:

NARWHAL combines expertise in lipid quantification and machine learning
(ML) driven diagnostics to develop a personalized health monitoring tool
possibly deployable using NRC’s automated microfluidics platform. The
combination of machine learning (ML) methodology, miniaturization of
sample processing, and new fluorescent-based assay of lipids seek to
enable new diagnostics. Previous collaborative work with NRC has resulted
in a panel of lipid biomarkers for COVID19. In this Project, the team will now
develop and miniaturize novel experimental and analytical methodologies for
automated ML-driven diagnostics of depression, cardiovascular problems,
and long COVID19. The goals of the Project are to validate fluorescent lipid
biomarker quantification against the gold-standard of mass spectrometry,
select optimal markers for this approach through ML, and to optimize ML
methods for real-time personalized diagnostic evaluation. NARWHAL will
enable clinicians to have rapid clinical diagnostic testing in remote locations.

Extend Autonomous Simulations to Ice Training Simulators for Machine Learning Applications

Agreement Number:

996954

Duration: from Nov 1, 2022 to Mar 31, 2023
Description:

Virtual Marine’s ice management simulators are currently instructor-led and performance tracking is recorded and measured by an instructor. In this project, new software and scenarios will be developed for the ice management simulators to provide automated tracking and autonomous scenarios, and features will be implemented to assess performance in a variety of automated scenarios that have been developed for ice navigation training (e.g. ice breaking, pack ice management and ice recognition). Subsequently, additional software modules will be developed to track performance data and to form competency models that will provide inputs to adaptive training modules.
