Grants and Contributions

• The CIHR Institute of Health Services and Policy Research (IHSPR) has a mandate to support innovative research, capacity-building and knowledge translation initiatives designed to improve the way health care services are organized, regulated, managed, financed, paid for, used and delivered, in the interest of improving the health and quality of life of all Canadians. The CIHR-IHSPR recently launched its Strategic Plan for 2021 to 2026, entitled “Accelerate health system transformation through research to achieve the Quadruple Aim and equity for all”. • Funding will be provided for applications that specifically align with IHSPR’s mandate and one or more of the following priority areas:
o Innovations in how to organize, finance, manage and deliver health care that achieve the Quadruple Aim, improve equity, and are accountable to patients and the public in the following areas:
¿ Integration of care (including integrated delivery systems, continuity of care, and/or integration of upstream prevention approaches within health care delivery settings that address the social determinants of health);
¿ Primary, home and community-based care;
¿ Long-term care (including nursing home care and care provided in retirement homes and assisted living facilities); and
¿ The health care workforce (including, funding and remuneration, training and support, such as leadership training incorporating equity, diversity and inclusion, scopes of practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and data systems for planning).
o Implementation, evaluation and/or scale and spread of digital health solutions, data infrastructure and/or analytics, including virtual care technologies (such as e-referral and e-consult), and remote monitoring solutions, that aim to improve health and patient/provider experience outcomes;
o Designing, implementing and/or evaluating anti-racist, anti-discriminatory, diverse and/or inclusive health care delivery systems and/or service delivery models that advance the Quadruple Aim and health equity for all
o Advancing sustainable health care systems and service delivery models: Strategies and actions for the prevention, mitigation and/or responsiveness to health risk posed by climate change and other environmental impacts.

• The CIHR HIV/AIDS and STBBI Research Initiative (RI), under the leadership of the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (III), is responsible for the funding, management and oversight of research with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS and/or other STBBI (as identified in the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Pan-Canadian STBBI Framework for Action).

• The CIHR Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Research Initiative, under the co-leadership of CIHR’s Institute of Infection and Immunity (III) and CIHR’s Institute of Population and Public Health (IPPH) supports the development of broader, more cohesive engagement and actions, methods and tools to combat AMR and improve antimicrobial use.
• The CIHR AMR Research Initiative will fund applications that are determined to be relevant to the scope of the Initiative and to at least one (1) of the research area listed below.

The Project Grant program is expected to:
• Support a diverse portfolio of health-related research and knowledge translation proposals at any stage, from discovery to application, including commercialization;
• Promote relevant collaborations across disciplines, professions, and sectors; and
• Contribute to the creation and use of health-related knowledge.

• This Priority Announcement will fund pediatric cancer research that can lead to better outcomes and healthier lives for pediatric cancer patients and their families. The aim is to support promising research projects with the greatest potential for advancing knowledge and improving outcomes.
• Projects must directly focus on pediatric cancer/pediatric populations (children, adolescents and young adults living with cancer and their families).

• Bridge funding can be used at the NPAs discretion to catalyze work on their proposed project in the manner they feel best moves forward their research program, for example, collection of pilot data, demonstration of feasibility, or work to address peer review comments.

• The Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies (the Research Centre) will offer funding to support early career investigators in the field of pandemic preparedness and health emergencies.

• The Research Centre will award multi-year grants to applications that are determined to be relevant to advancing the Research Centre’s mission: to protect the health of all Canadians by developing and mobilizing research for pandemic and health emergency preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery that contributes meaningfully to timely, equitable and effective responses and recovery.

• The Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies (the Research Centre) will offer funding to support early career investigators in the field of pandemic preparedness and health emergencies.

• The Research Centre will award multi-year grants to applications that are determined to be relevant to advancing the Research Centre’s mission: to protect the health of all Canadians by developing and mobilizing research for pandemic and health emergency preparedness, prevention, response, and recovery that contributes meaningfully to timely, equitable and effective responses and recovery.
