About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

The focus of the project will be the establishment of childcare coalitions and networks in regions in Canada that currently lack them so as to be in a better position to advocate for the kind of evidence-based public childcare policy measures that will lead to enhanced economic security for women.

This project aims to combat inequality and exclusion and to find evidence based solutions in the context of advocacy efforts at the UN and is part of the Pathfinders Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies Grand Challenge initiative. The Pathfinders, is a global partnership coordinated by CIC. Pathfinders members works to accelerate delivery of the UN’s SDG goals and their commitment to provide justice for all by 2030. The Grand Challenge is part of the Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies initiative, which is led by 35 participating member states, including Canada, and over 100 partners from leading international organizations, global partnerships, and civil society partners across the world.

Community Engagement to Address and Prevent Gender-Based Violence

This 3-month project will develop a framework and a consultation toolkit to support effective and coordinated roundtable sessions to ensure input received during the community engagement contributes effectively to learning more about the specific GBV needs of diverse communities using an intersectional lens. These roundtables will result in recommendations for clear, concrete actions to address and prevent GBV in communities across Canada.
YWCA Canada will distribute funding directly to approximately 60 organizations (up to $40K each). The core organizations would include be members of the Blueprint Coalition and the GBV Advisory Council. In addition to these core members, YWCA Canada will recommend and include other organizations to address identified gaps and ensure representation across the country.
Finally, YWCA Canada will prepare and submit an overall report summarizing community engagement reports and recommended actions.

Expert Engagement to Address and Prevent Gender-Based Violence

This three and a half months project will create working groups, corresponding to four of the five pillars of the GBV National Action Plan At-A-Glance (Support for survivors and their families; Prevention; Promotion of responsive legal and justice systems; and Social infrastructure and enabling environment), to lead and coordinate sector strategic input while ensuring representation across the country.
Women’s Shelter Canada (WSC) will ensure that the working groups are provided a common framework and tools to help guide strategic discussions. The working groups will conduct research to ensure that evidence-based recommendations are provided in their individual pillar-based reports. WSC will prepare a final report summarizing the four reports and strategic recommendations for action.
Work specifically on Support for Indigenous-led approaches and responses will be addressed through engagement sessions with Indigenous leaders, partners, communities and the Indigenous Women’s Circle.

Brain Trust for the Colombian Transition - Support to Territorial Peace Implementation

This project aims to strengthen the implementation of Colombia's "Territorial-focused Development Plans" (known as PDETs in Spanish). The project does this by supporting the combined work of “Territorial Trust,” a sub-national network of peace implementation actors in PDET regions. And the Colombian Brain Trust, a network of experts who played a direct and significant role in the Colombian peace negotiations in Havana. Together, the Brain and Territorial Trusts provide analysis, policy advice, and recommendations to policy-makers on peace implementation, emphasizing PDET implementation.
Project activities include: (1) holding sessions with the Brain and Territorial Trusts that serve to identify, debate and analyze challenges and solutions; formulating policy recommendations, and defining engagement strategies aimed at catalyzing PDET implementation; (2) conducting workshops aimed at building knowledge on lessons learned from different conflict contexts; (3) preparing and distributing policy analyses on risks and opportunities for peace implementation in Colombia; and (4) conducting public outreach with broader audiences, including actors with different political views or technical interpretations of the Peace Agreement’s implementation.
