The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

a. Accelerate the availability and use of high-quality and real-time evidence and/or solutions to support Canada’s ongoing response to the pandemic in order to better prevent, detect, treat and manage COVID-19; AND
b. Generate evidence related to one or more marginalized population(s), including for instance: Black and other communities marginalized by race; First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous Peoples; communities historically excluded from research; those experiencing health inequity; persons with disabilities and individuals across diverse health status (e.g. high risk populations, individuals with comorbid conditions); those experiencing gendered impacts of the pandemic; and those in life stages that have been underrepresented in research (e.g. pregnant people, children, older adults). Across all populations, researchers are encouraged to consider a lifecycle approach (from preconception to older adulthood).

• The CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative, managed by the CIHR Institute of Infection and Immunity (III), is responsible for the funding, management and oversight of research with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS and/or other STBBI (as identified in the Public Health Agency of Canada’s pan-Canadian STBBI framework for action). This includes, but is not limited to: human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV), chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and human papilloma virus (HPV). This funding is provided across all CIHR Research Themes: biomedical research, clinical research, health services research and social, cultural, environmental and population health research.
• Research that focuses on key populations identified by Canada’s pan-Canadian STBBI framework for action is highly encouraged.
• Information on the strategic directions of the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative can be found in the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative: Strategic Plan (2015-2020).

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

Support Indigenous-led research related to gender and wellness;
Encourage knowledge creation that will raise awareness and improve understanding of Indigenous concepts of gender in a strengths-based, wellness context;
Facilitate knowledge sharing as to how Indigenous concepts of gender can affect wellness, in a manner that is directly relevant to and for the benefit of Indigenous communities; and
Support the implementation of action-oriented, community-based projects that will improve wellness among Indigenous communities from a gendered perspective.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to continue to:
• Produce rapid knowledge syntheses and associated evidence-based products (e.g., evidence profiles, living evidence syntheses) related to the COVID-19 pandemic, based on current evidence and that responds to an identified evidence need;
• Provide decision-makers with high-quality, timely, accessible and relevant evidence for the rapid translation of knowledge into policy, practice and/or clinical guidelines to address the immediate response to the pandemic; and
• Address evidence gaps and build the evidence base for the response to COVID-19;
• Enhance national and international coordination across knowledge synthesis experts and organizations involved in producing COVID-19 related products.
