In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Building Capacity and Championing Equality: Strengthening Inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ in Faith Communities and Beyond

Through this 15-month project, Affirm United/S’affirmer Ensemble will build stronger capacity of the 2SLGBTQI+ communities within faith organizations and other 2SLGBTQI+ community-based groups to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality. This 15-month project takes those stories of faith-based trauma, collected over the past 10 years, and works to create strategies for advocacy to address the long-term effects of faith-based trauma.
The project will include advocacy events, development of policies and strategies to support advocacy efforts, and the foundation for a 5-year strategic plan. Additionally, strategies and policies for advocacy will be shared with the wider public to foster a more comprehensive understanding of the impact of faith-based trauma on 2SLGBTQI+ communities. This will be achieved by sharing progress, policies, and strategies at advocacy events, as well as through displays at organizational conferences and conventions.

Empowering Muslim Women: Addressing Gendered Islamophobia and Workplace Sexual Harassment

The proposed project, aims to provide comprehensive legal support and public education to Muslim women in Ontario who face intersectional discrimination in the workplace. The organization will provide legal clinics dedicated to the topic of workplace sexual harassment. A dedicated hotline will be established, providing immediate legal support. The organization will also conduct public legal education sessions to inform Muslim communities about their legal rights.

Hosting a Trans Client/Peer Advisory Committee & Establishing a Trans Health Hub

Through this 27-month project, Casey House Foundation will address the needs and barriers to equality for 2SLGBTQI+ communities. This will be achieved by 1) establishing and onboarding an Advisory Committee tasked with developing a health information hub by and for trans people; 2) conducting research and collecting data on the needs of trans people in the GTA to access and navigate an inclusive healthcare experience; 3) designing and disseminating recommendations to foster access and inclusion in trans people’s healthcare experience; and 4) conducting a project evaluation.

Creation of a governance body for the PR LGBTQ+ Allies Group

Through this 15-month project, the Groupe LGBTQ+ alliés de Prescott-Russell LGBTQ + Allies Group will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality. In order to better support the 2SLGBTQI+ community and to become a reference organization for the 2SLGBTQI+ community in the Prescott-Russell region, the project will include incorporating the Group, which will help it create a solid foundation to carry out its mission and ensure its sustainability. The project will also include the development of internal and administrative policies, recruitment of Board members as well as governance and awareness training for Board members.

October 2024 – Afghanistan continues to experience deteriorating humanitarian conditions, with high levels of need cutting across all provinces and sectors. In 2024, an estimated 23.7 million people require humanitarian assistance due to the impacts of many years of conflict, chronic food insecurity, displacement, broad economic crisis, and climatic events.
With GAC’s support, Aga Khan Foundation Canada helps provide lifesaving humanitarian health, nutrition, and psychosocial support in Afghanistan. Project activities include: (1) providing essential medicines and medical supplies; (2) conducting training sessions on maternal and newborn health; (3) providing nutrition services; and (4) conducting community information-sharing session to promote the utilization of these essential services.

With GAC’s support, Canadian Foodgrains Bank aims to meet the immediate food needs of conflict-affected communities in Al Jazirah, North Kordofan, South Darfur and White Nile through the provision of gender-responsive humanitarian food assistance. Project activities include: (1) distributing of in-kind food and vouchers to vulnerable households; (2) forming gender-equitable community advisory committees to inform project implementation; and (3) conducting safety audits for project activities, including safety risks for women, girls and marginalized groups.
