This grant represents Canada's support to the Junior Professional Officers (JPO) Programme of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). It is part of a larger contribution to the UN JPO Programme, which supports staffing of up to 15 JPO positions with young Canadian professionals in seven United Nations organizations (UNDP, UNFPA, WHO, UN Women, UNICEF, WFP and UNHCR).

UNICEF uses these funds to recruit and assign up to two young Canadians to JPO positions, allowing them to gain field-based professional experience in international development and help support the organization's mandate towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF advocates for protecting children's rights to help meet their basic needs and expand their opportunities to reach their full potential, including in emergency situations. UNICEF also works to ensure the protection of children from violence and abuse.

It is part of a larger contribution to the UN JPO Programme, which supports staffing of up to 15 JPO positions with young Canadian professionals in seven United Nations organizations (UNDP, UNFPA, WHO, UN Women, UNICEF, WFP and UNHCR).

WFP uses these funds to recruit and assign up to two young Canadians to JPO positions, allowing them to gain field-based professional experience in international development and help support the organization’s mandate towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

WFP is the largest international humanitarian organization fighting hunger and plays a critical role in providing humanitarian assistance that saves lives, alleviates suffering and maintains the dignity of people affected by conflicts and natural disasters worldwide.

This project seeks to improve the understanding and implementation of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), particularly among Venezuelan migrants and refugees. The project aims to increase the protection of sexual and reproductive health and rights of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), in all their diversity, in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Project activities include: (1) training on prevention of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) for adolescent girls and boys, SRHR, gender-transformative life skills and transformative masculinities; (2) training frontline protection and health service providers in gender-and adolescent-responsive and inclusive protection and SRHR service provision; (3) providing equipment and supplies for SRHR service providers, including menstrual health needs; (4) implementing a communications strategy to challenge negative gender norms, promote AGYW`s rights, the role of men and boys as allies, and the prevention of xenophobia; and (5) strengthening the capacity of local organizations, particularly women’s rights organizations, youth-led organizations and migrants rights organizations through virtual learning and multi-country exchange sessions for project staff and key actors.

The project aims to reach 122, 619 beneficiaries (65% women) aged 10 to 29.

The GCF programmes globally but specific attention and prioritization is given to Least Developed Countries, Small Island Developing States, and Africa.

Project activities include: (1) helping at least 10 million people in the poorest and most vulnerable developing countries adapt to the effects of climate change; and (2) reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 200 million tonnes.

This project aims to advance the realization of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of adolescent girls and young women in Cox's Bazar host communities and refugee camps. Project activities include: (1) organizing young married women’s groups and training them on gender equality and inclusion, SRHR, mental health support, protection and decision-making; (2) training members of men’s clubs on gender equality and inclusion, SRHR, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and mental health; (3) training facility and community-based service providers on gender- and adolescent-responsive and inclusive service delivery and referral on sexual and reproductive health (SRH), SGBV and mental health; (4) refurbishing and equipping government and partner health care facilities and supplying them with job aids and logistics to provide gender- and adolescent-responsive and inclusive SRH, SGBV and mental health support services; (5) identifying, local women’s rights organizations and linking them with local young women’s groups and adolescent girls’ groups for collective local action on gender equality, SGBV, SRHR, mental health and harmful traditional practices.

Capacity building support delivered through IOM Iraq’s Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) programme.

The project aims to strengthen social cohesion in Tajikistan through provision of more effective, better coordinated support by actors engaged in supporting implementation and monitoring of the new PVE Strategy II, in line with the principles of ‘do no harm’, human rights, gender equality and conflict sensitivity.

This project will aim to provide comprehensive support to the Government of Bangladesh to strengthen community policing in order to counter terrorism and violent extremism in Bangladesh. Along with strengthening the Community Police Units and capacities of the Community Police Officers, in line with the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism, the project will also aim to support and strengthen the government efforts to design, establish and implement the relevant key components of a Bangladesh national counter-terrorism strategy, including strengthening capacities of Anti-Terrorism Unit as lead agency for countering violent extremism.

The project aims to address the terrorism-arms-crime nexus, by enhancing criminal justice responses to prevent and combat the illicit trafficking of SALW and to disrupt the illicit supply of such arms to terrorist groups. The project aims to build the capacities of border control, customs, criminal justice officials, and legislators. The project will contribute to the enhancement of national legislative, strategic, and operational capacities of the Central Asian countries to properly prevent, detect, and counter the firearms trafficking and consequently the associated activities of terrorism and organized crime. Through its regional component, the project contributes to a higher level of cooperation and cohesion in addressing firearms trafficking and related issues.

The purpose of this project is to increase public security in Haiti by impacting homicide and kidnapping rates, the annual level of victimization and the feeling of insecurity. This project is a Canadian contribution to the United Nations multi-donor basket fund for security. It focuses on improving and rapidly increasing the Haitian National Police’s capacity to redress insecurity, ensure law enforcement and reduce institutions’ vulnerability. Project activities include: (1) supporting the definition of more feminized profiles in recruitment; (2) rehabilitation of 15 to 20 police stations and sub-police stations in the West Department; (3) supporting the design of specialized training modules on various aspects of criminal investigation; (4) training and mentoring for the personnel of the anti-kidnapping unit; and (5) setting up the infrastructure for the creation of the cybercrime unit.
