By the end of the project, the organization will have helped eliminate systemic barriers by promoting inclusive policies and practices, by changing persistent and harmful gender norms and attitudes and by expanding networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change in support of women’s equality.

Supplemental funding will be used to create a GBV advocacy campaign; engage with the community to develop a referral network and culturally-responsive programming; and increase organizational funding capacity.

The project will build upon a network of women’s organizations to deliver workshops that address civic participation, advocacy, and policy change for women in underrepresented communities.

Through this 30-month project, Northern BC Queer Connection Society will build stronger capacity of 2SLGBTQI+ community organizations and networks to advance 2SLGBTQI+ equality by building a database of resources and collaborating with community partners.

A project coordinator will be networking and engaging with the grassroots communities in implementing these activities.

It will address the systemic underrepresentation of women in local government and democratic processes, rebalancing the distribution of power and ensuring women have a voice at decision-making tables by overcoming key barriers including lack of local government knowledge, lack of civic participation tools and resources, lack of mentorship opportunities and networks, and the lack of elected leader support to enact gender-equitable policies.
