Grants and Contributions

Project activities include: (1) protecting and assisting people affected by conflict and violence, by providing medical care, access to potable water, and restoring livelihoods; (2) ensuring that international humanitarian law is respected in the treatment of civilians not taking part in hostilities, as well as for detainees; and (3) providing Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies with technical expertise and capacity support to promote international humanitarian law, restore links between lost family members, deliver health services, raise funds for emergency response and integrate gender equality into operations.

In 2020, assessments indicate that 7.7 million people are expected to require humanitarian assistance, including emergency food rations, treatment for life-threatening severe acute malnutrition and other healthcare services, and protection for vulnerable women and girls at grave risk of sexual and gender-based violence.

With GAC’s support, ALIMA is providing access to life-saving emergency healthcare services to 75,500 conflict-affected people in Nigeria’s Borno state.

With GAC’s support, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is contributing to meeting the sexual and reproductive health needs of vulnerable women and girls, and preventing and responding to sexual and gender-based violence. Project activities include: (1) ensuring the continuity of national and local health system capacity to provide access to integrated quality sexual and reproductive health; (2) mitigating the impact on supply chain and logistics management for sexual and reproductive health supplies, ensuring continuity of supplies and care for life-saving sexual and reproductive health services; (3) providing and protecting health workers by ensuring that basic personal protection equipment is available; and (4) providing risk communication and community engagement for primary prevention and stigma reduction on COVID-19.

This 12-month project will build the capacity of organizations working with victims of sexual assault and organizations working with victims of domestic violence to respond to the immediate health and safety crisis posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization will develop a process to disburse the funding to sexual assault centres and domestic violence shelters in Québec.

This 12-month Agreement will support women’s shelters and organizations in support of victims of sexual and domestic violence, located in Quebec, during the exceptional circumstances caused by the COVID-19.

Quebec shall use the contribution paid under this Agreement to fund additional
direct services to these organizations.

Quebec shall submit public reports to Canada describing how the federal funds were spent and how they helped organizations provide services during the COVID-19 crisis.

This 18-month project will enhance the capacity of women’s shelters and organizations in support of victims of sexual and domestic violence in Quebec in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization will develop a process to disburse the funding to women's shelters and organizations in support of victims of sexual and domestic violence in Québec.

The additional funds of $8.7M will ensure continued support to eligible organizations in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.

This 35-month project will build the capacity of organizations working with victims of sexual assault and organizations working with victims of domestic violence to respond to the immediate health and safety crisis posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization will develop a process to disburse the funding to sexual assault centres and domestic violence shelters in Québec.

The additional funds of $44,431,600 will ensure continued support to eligible organizations in the midst of the ongoing pandemic.

Funding will support research on best practices around issues related to the women, peace and security agenda, by both state and non-state actors, with a focus on child protection policies and practices from a gender-neutral perspective. The resulting research will be discussed at an event in Ottawa in summer 2020.

Project activities include: (1) providing critical medical, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) supplies, and enhancing infection prevention and control; (2) providing access to continuous education, child protection, and gender-based violence services disrupted by the pandemic; (3) providing access to basic health care services, including mental health and psychosocial services; (4) supporting risk communication and community engagement, including behavior-focused participatory interventions, and targeted messages on self- isolation measures to at-risk groups; and (5) collecting data and analysis on the secondary impacts of COVID-19.

Through the support of 1,037 volunteer placements, it increases the participation of Canadians in international development and global issues and enhances the performance of 120 developing country partners to deliver more inclusive, innovative and environmentally sustainable development initiatives that promote gender equality.
