Grants and Contributions

About this information

In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.

The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.

Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Building Back Through Innovation & Increasing Diversity in Canada's Intellectual Property Sector

Agreement Number:

NA21391

Duration: from Dec 17, 2021 to Mar 31, 2024
Description:

This 27-month project will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19, through removing barriers and addressing systemic issues adversely impacting Canadian women’s advancement as leaders and decision-makers in the intellectual property (IP) sector. The Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) will achieve this by introducing
equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) policy initiatives into IPIC’s leadership development activities; developing and delivering training and awareness-raising programming for the Canadian IP profession; and developing resources to support EDI best practices and promote diversity. A website and social media campaign will support access to resources and highlight best practices, policy initiatives as well as programming available. At the end of the project, the organization will have contributed to addressing systemic barriers by advancing inclusive policies and practices, increasing networks and collaboration to accelerate systemic change, and supporting positive distribution of authority, voices, and decision-making power.

Throughout the project, IPIC will connect and engage with organizations representative of women, particularly Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC) professionals, as well as other traditionally underrepresented groups. The project will include evaluation components such as surveys along with other types of feedback and consultative processes.
