The Undergraduate Student Research Awards (USRA) are meant to nurture the interest of the students and fully develop their potential for a research career in the natural sciences and engineering. They are also meant to encourage students to undertake graduate studies in these fields. Students who would like to gain research experience in an academic setting, these awards can provide financial support through the hosting university. NSERC encourages qualified Aboriginal students to apply to this program.

This project aims to empower women and adolescent girls and improve their sexual and reproductive health, as well as maternal and infant health, in the Tchologo region of Côte d’Ivoire.

The project’s activities include: (1) analyzing gender roles within the community and identifying socio-cultural barriers to access to services and risk factors; (2) raising awareness among communities, mothers, husbands and adolescents to improve behaviours related to sexual and reproductive health, maternal and infant health, nutrition, and outbreak prevention; (3) supporting members of women’s and adolescent girls’ associations in establishing healthy and sustainable association management mechanisms; (4) training and raising awareness among community leaders and officials on inclusive governance so that women and adolescent girls can participate in local decision making; and (5) training women’s and adolescent girls’ associations on the use of referral services and mechanisms for survivors of gender based violence.

The project aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of vulnerable and underserved women and adolescent girls in two urban slums in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In collaboration with local partners, project activities include: (1) providing training to health facility staff of 154 garment factories and clinics to provide quality contraceptive care responsive to needs of adolescents, and survivors of sexual and gender based violence; (2) facilitating social and behavior change to support women’s and adolescent girls’ needs with respect to SRHR; and (3) providing infrastructure, commodities, and technology required to provide quality woman-centered contraceptive service in the selected facilities. The project also strives to establish effective communication mechanisms to ensure adolescent girls and women have access to accurate information on the availability of contraceptive services and resources for sexual and gender based violence.

Modest Tree Media Inc project is in support of employment of a Front End Developer through the YIF Program. As a front end developer the youth will:

Use markup languages like HTML to create user-friendly web pages;
Develop new websites and web apps as needed;
Build, scale and monitor new services;
Create API’s to enhance Modest3D suite of software;
Find new ways to enhance our use of web technology for increased productivity;
Helping back-end developers with coding and troubleshooting;
Ensuring high-quality graphic standards and brand consistency;
Staying up-to-date on emerging technologies;
and Other tasks as required.
