About this information
In June 2016, as part of the Open Government Action Plan, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) committed to increasing the transparency and usefulness of grants and contribution data and subsequently launched the Guidelines on the Reporting of Grants and Contributions Awards, effective April 1, 2018.
The rules and principles governing government grants and contributions are outlined in the Treasury Board Policy on Transfer Payments. Transfer payments are transfers of money, goods, services or assets made from an appropriation to individuals, organizations or other levels of government, without the federal government directly receiving goods or services in return, but which may require the recipient to provide a report or other information subsequent to receiving payment. These expenditures are reported in the Public Accounts of Canada. The major types of transfer payments are grants, contributions and \'other transfer payments\'.
Included in this category, but not to be reported under proactive disclosure of awards, are (1) transfers to other levels of government such as Equalization payments as well as Canada Health and Social Transfer payments. (2) Grants and contributions reallocated or otherwise redistributed by the recipient to third parties; and (3) information that would normally be withheld under the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

Advancing Women Peace and Security Implementation in South Sudan

This project works to further support enhancing gender mainstreaming and the integration of women and girls’ rights and experiences in South Sudan’s transitional institutions at the highest levels, through a Gender Advisor to the Special Envoy for the Inter-Governmental Authority of Development (IGAD).
Project activities include: (1) providing capacity building to women politicians and women’s organizations to meaningfully engage in the Revitalised Agreement of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS); and (2) ensuring gender-sensitivity of members to the R-ARCSS pre-transitional and transitional institutions, including in areas of protection, leadership and participation.

Climate Change in Africa: Impacts and Responses For Women and Girls

The project works to strengthen the evidence base in order to improve the design and implementation of gender-responsive climate change policies in sub-Saharan Africa, and to contribute to the empowerment of women and girls as beneficiaries and leaders in national climate strategies.
Project activities include: (1) running a call for proposals for teams of researchers and policy officials to conduct research on gender-responsive climate change policy options; (2) providing mentorship to selected teams in advanced research methods to analyze the economics of gender equality and climate change; and (3) providing training support to researchers and policy officials to understand, communicate, and use the results of this analysis to influence more effective climate change policies and programs.

Project activities include: (1) treating acutely malnourished children, and pregnant and lactating women; (2) providing mental health, psychosocial support and protection information, programs and services; (3) upgrading sanitation facilities with solar lighting, locks and gender-specific signage; (4) providing training and support to women leaders to promote the advancement and protection of women and girls; and (5) conducting information sessions with men and boys on the prevention of gender-based violence and child marriage.

Better Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for Adolescent Girls in Senegal

The project aims to examine the link between gender-based violence (GBV) and broader gender inequalities, and address policy shortcomings related to adolescent girls’ health and rights.
Project activities include: (1) researching the links that exist between adolescent girls’ vulnerability to GBV and SRHR; (2) translating findings into products and tools, and applying these findings to address negative gender norms and practices; (3) raising awareness and engagement of community organizations that work against the root causes of GBV; and (4) supporting the development of collaborative and transformative youth leadership skills for adolescent girls to overcome social barriers.
